Hi everyone!

Im Aira Joy Cortez the president of cultural Committee as todays speaker since this
october is the month of indigenous peoples month celebration and 26th IPRA commemoraton thats
why I will share some informations about indigenous people and indigenious peoples right.

Firstly what is indigenous people or who are they? Indigenous people are describe as any group of
people or native to a specific region. In other words it refers to people who lived there before or settlers
arrived.In our country 10% to 20% of our population was indigenous people and some of them
experience discrimination.

Thats why we have the republic act law 8371 to recognize indigenous peoples rights to their ancestral
lands, resources and cultural heritage, ensuring legal protection or safety against discrimination and
exploitation.

IPRA law was a big help for many indigenous people since after this law was implemented the
goverment and the community now finally paid attention to them.IPRA was so benefficial for them
since they can now attend giverment matter and share there issues and concerns in our community.

According to Randy Catarman theres a of things that they wanted that brings benefits to them. They
are also looking forward to indigenous people land and ancestral domain development plan to be
implemented because this will give such as programs for education, health and their environment.
The National commission on indegenous people was also wishing from the goverment to give them
funds and support that at least make them as a department because this will give more recognitionon
on what they need or some plans for their sectors.People rights act should be recognized promoted
and respected.
