Netflix's impact on speaking skills

In recent years, Netflix has developed into a new form of entertainment. They provide an interesting
and new method to interact with people and exchange ideas. Both students and teachers can use
movies as a tool for collaboration and as a way to disseminate knowledge, messages, and resources
while also promoting dialogue (Liando et al., 2018). Students have a stronger knowledge of the language
they are studying by watching movies with subtitles. Learning audiences find reversed subtitled movies
to be easier to understand since they are more accustomed to the auditory language. As a result, studies
have demonstrated that using movie snippets can enhance students' listening and speaking
comprehension (Albiladi et al., 2018). Students who watch a movie with subtitles not only see and listen
to the audio-visual content but also comprehend it and interact with it (Sadiku, 2018). Watching movies
can help with writing lessons since they offer exciting and motivational clues to go along with auditory or
text information. Students may understand what they are learning more fully if instructional videos that
are essential to the coursework are used. As a side benefit, teachers frequently use movies on Netflix
adaptations of well-known modern novels to augment lessons in the classroom (Mongar, 2019).

By watching a movie, students can gain new insight into a narrative or subject. Using movies on Netflix
selections allows students to connect to fresh information that they were previously unaware of.
Students learn context through viewing movies, making predictions, seeing a piece of the film, reading
more of the text, assessing their comprehension, watching a further portion of the film, and finally
reading the complete text. The Watch-Read-Watch-Read method is also known as W-RW-R. (Liando et
al., 2018). Sadiku (2018) discovered that using movies in the classroom was a successful method for
encouraging students to learn a language. Even more crucially, movies are shown in classrooms to
stimulate students' creativity (Mongar, 2019). Paxton & Marcus (2018) claim that movies are useful for
establishing context and fostering interpersonal skills. They give students a great deal of knowledge
about language as well as literature, drama, film, and other performing and visual arts (Hekmati et al.,
2018). A study by Han et al. (2015) found that watching movies in the classroom activated prior
knowledge, which was essential for enhancing all four language skills, but particularly the speaking skill.
However, a precise set of educational objectives ought to serve as the basis for the movie choices made
for classroom use. The theme and content should be chosen such that they engage the pupils and
provide them with information as well as entertainment (Mongar, 2019). Derin and Yeldz (2018)
contend that teachers must create an engaging viewing experience in the classroom. In addition, Sadiku
(2018) stresses the significance of picking films that are not offensive to the target pupils and are not too
complex for them to understand. Teachers and students can both benefit from introducing movie

have previously encountered and the literature they are studying. A five-minute movie introduction

words and expressions to utilize in the movie was found to be beneficial for both students and teachers,

students may adopt passive viewing, which is typical at home if there are no activities. Studies have

learning tool (Hekmati et al., 2018). The exercises used to get the most out of the movie are completely
up to the teacher. The same movie may transmit a multitude of meanings depending on the strategies
