What is Thanksgiving?
• Thanksgiving Day is a holiday celebrated mainly in the
United States, in Canada and in the Caribbean Islands,
observed as a day of gratitude to God, with prayers and
parties, for the good events that occurred during the year;
When is Thanksgiving celebrated?
• Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of
October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of
November in the United States and around the same
part of the year in other places;
• This year is on 24th of November;

The history of Thanksgiving Day
• Thanksgiving began in 1620, when English immigrants
celebrated a bountiful harvest on a plantation in
Plymouth, Massachusetts, and invited Native American
Indians to share food and celebrate with them.

• Despite having been widely celebrated since 1621, it
wasn't until 1863 that President Abraham Lincoln
declared that Thanksgiving Day falls every year on the
fourth Thursday of November. In 1941, Congress
declared Thanksgiving a national holiday.

• Turkey Day- people eat Turkey at their meals;

• Watching American football;
• Sharing what you are thankful for;
• Giving back;
