welcome to thanksgiving day celebration

All over the world there have always been "thanksgiving" parties. People celebrate harvests and
give thanks for everything they have in very different ways

In the United States, Thanksgiving celebrations began many, many years ago. In 1598, Don Juan de
Oñate held a great thanksgiving party very close to where the city of El Paso is today, in the state
of Texas.

Oñate made a very long and difficult trip to Texas. Oñate was a Creole, that is, the son of Spaniards
born in America. When they arrived at the Rio Grande, they had a big party that lasted several
days. They were very happy because they were alive despite all the difficulties of the trip.

A few years later, in 1621, a festival was held, made by English pilgrims to give thanks for the good
harvest they had had

In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving a national holiday. Since then, Americans
have been reunited on this day with their loved ones. They have dinner together and give thanks
for the good things they have received.

Turkey is usually eaten with cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Some families eat typical dishes of
their countries, the important thing is not the food, but to get together to give thanks
