Case # 3: “What Else Can I do”

I do not agree with Glenda pursuing to go to the media nor to the Senator to
report such anomalies.

I do believe that in this situation, Glenda should weigh things seriously. The
options she had mentioned would not help her on the basis that these two: the
media and the senator would only use her for their personal intentions and interest.
These two will not consider her true reason why she would like this anomalies going
on in their office be stopped. The officers in their section are clearly avoiding this
because they do not care of the possible effects of the mining company to the
people in the area. They do not wish to be dragged along with this controversy and
worst lose their job. They also have their families and loved ones to protect that is
why it is too risky to do such thing. But on the contrary, Glenda has the same thing
but she was not selfish to lend help to those people who might get affected of the
activities possibly done by the mining company. She only want to help and spread
the anomalies in order to save those poor people unconscious of the possible danger
that they might face.

It is indeed Glenda who will have the final say of her chosen action but she
should consider the things that might happen if she clings to either one of the
choices she has in mind. If she possibly chooses the media, surely her family will be
dragged along with this anomaly. She will become an instant celebrity; she will have
her face on tabloids printed and of course alongside with her agency. They will be
named and branded. Apparently it will take both sides from people; others will see
her doings as good and others will judge her negatively. The media could spice it up
and make this an issue of the century if they would want to. They could actually
make and break her at the same time so she should really think about it. On the
other hand, if she raises such issue to politicians, she will be just used if the optician
is self-centered himself and is politically ambitious to the point of making her as his
puppet. She could serve as a tool for boosting egoistic politicians and making
themselves hero of the story. It will uphold their names and eventually could make
them as an eyeful candidate for any higher positions thereof. Thus, making Glenda
nothing and losing the real purpose for exposing this anomaly.

It is then a tough choice to make, however, it not right to stop just because
everybody else thinks that you could not make a big difference. The best way to
make her agency realized that their wrong doings could really make a big impact on
the society. She could try to tell it directly to her bosses, those who are trusted and
make them realize that their true mission is to serve and uphold the welfare of the
many people and not of the few. Considering this and the possibilities that might
happen because of the decisions made of those unconcerned individual could
awaken the consciousness of her fellow beings that they need to stop their wrong
doings and become people worthy of people’s trust. We should make it a point to
think a hundred times before we do reckless things.
