Case # 3: “What Else Can I do”

I do not agree with Glenda going to Senator Enriques nor the media to report the
anomalies going on in their office.

Everyone has a choice. We are given the privilege to choose from the many choices
that we have. And I do not believe that the only choice that Linda has is to tell the media
nor the senator about the problem arising in their office. Yes, apparently she has her
reasons about it. She is anticipating for the people who will be much affected if the project
is pushed through. It is not just actually a small problem rather a big one that could affect
the environment and the community surrounding it. As a government employee she is just
actually displaying commitment to the welfare of the public interest. Since, it is our duty to
provide quality service and become responsible public servants who are not just working
because we are paid, rather because we commit to serve to the people of this country no
matter what.

If she will actually pursue the whistle blowing act, it could possibly be a reason for
her to have conflicts with her superior. It is a fact that she can be protected using the
whistle blowing act but it will reflect to her agency. The image of the agency will surely be
ruined especially that it will become a controversy if the press people will made up stories
that could make this issue have a bigger impact especially to get to the eyes of the public.
There are instances that the media could be of help since they can easily reach the people
especially with the modern technology that we have. The only problem is that some are not
showing professionalism and add spices to the story. They do not care about its effect to
people and don’t mind them as long as they could have something to write or tell people. A
very dirty tactics used in the competition of the many television and radio networks that we
have, but not only with them but also with the newspaper and social media sites.

I am also not considering whistle blowing to any elected national official be beneficial
on this matter. The Officer may just use this to make his name popular and gain sympathy
from people. Thus, this is just actually one way of pursuing his personal interest to run
again to a much higher position as how I see it. Glenda will just become a puppet in the
end. She will no longer have privacy and her family as well will be affected.

This problem should be first solved on the agency concerned. If her division chief
failed to hear her side she can actually go to the Director. Those were just words from her
chief, there is actually no harm in trying to tell it to those people who could do something
about it. She should not stop just because she was stopped by someone. She has her own
choice and its up to her to do the right thing. But as much as possible, she needs to tell it to
the people who will be trusted enough and surely could help her solve the problem and not
just to someone who could cause a bigger problem.
