FREE FALL

A free falling object is an object

that is falling under the sole influence
of GRAVITY.
FREE FALL
Characteristics of a free-falling objects:
a. Do NOT encounter air resistance.
b. All free-falling objects (on Earth)
accelerate downwards at a rate of 9.8
m/s2.
FREE FALL
vi = 0 m/s g = -9.8 m/s2

vf = 0 m/s
vi = 0 m/s

FREE FALL • Galileo took two objects of
different weights to the top of
the Tower of Pisa (Italy) and
threw them off of the top.
• Both objects hit the ground at
the same time. He concluded
in the absence of atmosphere,
objects will fall at the same
rate and time regardless of its
mass.
