7 Plain Patch

Hello Friends,
Aer Learning the Strokes, we will learn how to render a Plain,
Uniform Patch. I know, it sounds simple. But, let me tell you is not as
easy as it seems! But, it can surely be learnt.
Before you begin with this one, the first thing you need to do is
pracse the Tapered stroke thoroughly. It has to be perfect that each
me to make a stroke it has to glide so easily, the ends need to be
light and the pressure has to be in the centre of the stroke. Once you
pracse bringing the strokes closer to each other.

Materials Required:

• Fabriano accademia (Schizzi) 120gsm

Let’s Get Started!
Step 1:
Take an ellipcal scale and take a medium sized ellipse.

Step 2:
Now we will fill this ellipse with Tapered strokes using B Pencil. It is
okay if the strokes go out of the ellipcal boundary.
Go from Le to right.Make sure your Pencil is sharpened all the me.

Step 3:
When you observe that some strokes are dark and there are white
gaps formed, we learn to repair it. DO NOT render in the darker
areas. Instead, fill the white gaps lightly and fill the lighter areas as
the dark patches look. DO NOT apply pressure. We can add on layers
to bring uniformity or darkness. The disadvantage of repairing the
difference in strokes is the Result we obtain. The patch appears to be
very dark. The aim is to fill the patch uniformly in one shot.

Step 4:
If there is a dark spot or a very dark stroke, use the kneaded eraser to
blot but not erase. jut make the eraser pointy from one end and
carefully just blot on the dark area.

Step 5:
Aer you complete each ellipse, erase the strokes which are
exceeding the ellipcal boundary. It will help in analysing where there
is scope of improvement.

This pracse is extremely important. Having been asked many mes

how to render artworks without smudging, this is the technique we
follow. In this tutorial,we reveal this simple secret technique that will
help us in making photorealisc artworks.

Invest me into this and work in details. Make sure there is
uniformity and no white gaps. Do observe the pracse sheets. it
generally takes a week or two to master this.

Remember, you can draw stunning portraits from photographs if you

have the right tools, right techniques and paence.

Key Points for Plain Patch

Practise set of uniform Tapered Strokes before you start with a

Patch rendering.

Fill the Patch using Tapered Stroke and fill white gaps using
Circular Strokes.

It is okay if your strokes go outside the Elliptical area. Erase the

strokes outside the ellipcal area and then observe the rendered
patch from a distance at your eye level.

If you go wrong, check how to repair it as shown in the tutorial.

It takes 5-6 days to make a Perfect Plain Patch in one go.

So give the time it deserves!

This is the BASE of Everything you learn, so make sure you do this
as much as you can. PRACTISE, PRACTISE, PRACTISE,...
