the alternative

After you get the
qualification you are
interested in, write down its
name and code on a piece of
paper for later use.
Click on the qualification of

your interest to read about
admission requirements,
research focus areas…

requirements and the rest of
the information on this page.
Read the research focus

areas and align your
research outline with that
of professors in your field
of interest. Contact
professors if needed.
For science, engineering,

and technology fields,
contacting professors and
getting a letter from
professors/departments
is required for admission.

and want to start applying for
a student number, you can
start from the 1st screen on
page 1. When you reach the
1st screen on page 2, click
“Apply for a student number
and apply for admission”
from the list on the left hand
side. Then click “Apply online
for student number …”
Select ‘Master’s and Doctoral’.
If you had previously applied

and got a UNISA student
number, select ‘YES’.
If you are applying for the

first time, select ‘NO’.

For Ethiopians:
Surname /Last name = grand
father’s name
First Names = your name and

your father’s name.
Select the program you want

to study by clicking the down
arrows.
For some qualifications

stream selection is not
active.
Confirm your selected

qualification.

Click ‘Add’ to give information
on degrees that you have
completed.
Provide all required

information on the degrees
that you have completed. Start
with the highest qualification.
Then click ‘Add/Edit’.

The information you entered
will be displayed. To add
another degree, click ‘Add’.
When you finish entering all

completed qualifications, click
‘Continue’.
Mark proper selections by

clicking the circles.

Complete this semi-filled
form.
First letters of your name and

your father’s name. Leave
space between the letters.
If you are using birth

certificate, choose ‘Foreign
Identity number’.

Provide your contact
addresses as indicated here
and answer the other
questions.
Cellular number means

Mobile Telephone Number.
If you are applying for MBA, MBL,

or LLM degrees, select ‘GAUTENG
– ONLINE EXAMINATIONS…’. For
all other programs, select ‘SOUTH
AFRICA – NOT APPLICABEL….”
Select ‘Ethiopia’ from the

drop down menu and write
your postal address correctly.

Indicate the physical
address of your residence
or work place.
You don’t need to write

Ethiopia in the address box
here. You have already
selected your country in the
previous screen.
Complete this part by

making the proper
selection.
Note that Ethiopian

languages are foreign
languages from a South
African perspective.

Skip this part. Just click
‘Continue’.
As UNISA programs are

delivered online, it is
suggested that you select all.

Read, agree, and click
‘Submit Application’.

This ends application for STUDENT
NUMBER. An email will also be sent
to you.
The next step is APPLICATION FOR

ADMISSION.
You are given a student number

/reference number. Save it as you
will need it to finalize your
application.
Click ‘Pay Later’
MOE sponsored applicant from

government universities DON’T PAY
APPLICATION FEE. Clicking ‘Pay Later’
is enough.

If you are not MOE
sponsored, after
completing online
application, pay Birr
equivalent of 135
South African Rand
application fee.

Admission’, click ‘Complete and
submit your application online’

Provide the student number
you were given in the
previous step and the other
required information.
If the month and/or day of

your birth date is one digit,
put ‘0’ before the number.
Click ‘Submit’ to proceed.

Select proposed qualification
from the drop down menu.
Make sure that your
selection is the same as
what you selected earlier.
Select your title, indicate if

you have disability, and
check correctness of your
personal details. Make
corrections where applicable,
declare, and continue.

Select specialization from the
drop down menu, if
applicable.
Check correctness of your

personal details, make
corrections where
applicable, and click
‘Continue’.

Your previous academic
history must be similar with
what you provided earlier.
Indicate your proposed focus

area, topic …
Applicants to College of Science,

Engineering, and Technology are
required to first contact a
professor and provide her/his
name here. A letter from the
professor/ department should
be uploaded with other
documents.
Check and make changes,

if needed.

Check for correctness of
your information.
Select ‘I agree’ and then

click “Request”.

This completes APPLICATION
FOR ADMISSION. The next step
is UPLOADING DOCUMENTES.
If you want, you can take a break

now. When you come back, use
the information given on page 13
to reach the screen indicated
below.
If you want to upload your

documents now, click “Submit
documents” to start uploading.

Documents indicated in red are
required for application. Make
sure that your documents are
ready as per the File specification.
Applicants to College of
Agriculture and Environmental
Sciences are required to submit
Departmental questionnaire.
To upload your document,

first choose the type of
document and then click
‘Add File’
Click “Choose File” and

select the file to be
uploaded from your
computer. When you
click “Add” the file name
will appear under
‘Selected files’

Repeat the same process to
upload all documents.
All the files you selected

will be listed under
‘Selected files’. You can
click ‘Remove’ if you
want to delete a file from
the list.
To finalize uploading
your documents, click
‘Save’.

This is a confirmation that
your documents have been
uploaded.
This completes the entire

admission application
process.
An email will also be sent to you.
Note that only complete applications will be processed. If there are documents that you have not
uploaded, you have only 10 days to upload the documents. The 10 days do not apply after the closing
date of applications.
Admission decisions will be communicated to you via email in February - March 2024.
