DevOps Engineer

I’m Bill – CTO here at Pinpoint.

We’re a high-growth, bootstrapped HR-tech start-up building and

selling software that helps in-house recruitment teams attract, hire,
and retain the best talent.

Technology is the core of our business. If we don't have a good

product (and good people building and maintaining that product) we
don't have a business. We're looking for engineers who share our
passion for tackling complexity and building software that is simple,
beautiful and scalable.

We're currently a small dynamic team of developers without a

dedicated infrastructure / DevOps engineer. We're looking to
recruit someone who's experienced in the SaaS space; someone
who's walked this path before and is able to lead as well as
execute.

Our team are mostly based in Jersey in the Channel Islands except
for two engineers. This role can either be an in-person or remote
role, however if your time zone differs from ours by more than two
hours you will need to be a senior candidate and be comfortable
working independently.

Let’s be honest with each other:

 We don't care when you work except for a daily meeting (time
zone allowing) at 9.30am (sorry!) as long as you get your work
done.

 You’ll be constantly pushing the boundaries of your knowledge

and experience.

 You’ll need to learn fast (and we'll give you support to do so).

If you're interested you can view more information about our

current technology stack.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will involve:
 Ensuring performance and availability of infrastructure.

 Identifying bottlenecks and introducing tooling to improve the

efficiency of the development workflow, such as CI/CD
pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.

 Providing technical direction, support, and advice to your

peers.

 Suggesting improvements to our infrastructure and processes

as you see fit.

 Continually learning technologies to optimize system security,

performance, availability and scalability.

 Responding to incidents promptly and identifying potential

issues.

What you'd need to do well in this role

The ideal candidate will be someone who relishes responsibility and
ownership, because that's what they'll be given; we value hiring
great people and giving them the freedom make decisions as they
see fit.

In an ideal world we want to hire someone with meaningful

experience in the following:

 Strong experience in automating Continuous Integration (CI)

and Continuous Deployment (CD).

 Experience with scaling SaaS business infrastructure.

 Experience working with cloud hosting providers E.g. AWS,

DigitalOcean etc.

 Experience supporting a Ruby on Rails application.

You'll also need to:

 Be good at learning new things, in depth, fast. You’ll be able

to do your own research on a topic, and have the ability to
design solutions independently.

 Be able to execute. You'll initially be on your own in the role

and so will need to be able to enact the changes you'd like to
make.
 Care about what you do. In our experience enthusiasm and a
willingness to learn goes much further than simply having
experience in something. Plus it makes work more fun for you
and the people around you.

 Be a good communicator. We find that most of our problems

stem from bad communication (both internally and externally)
so it's really important to know when to say something and
how to say it. You will also occasionally need to speak to
clients or third party partners and get good results.

We’ll expect a lot from you, but in return

you’ll:
 Grow your career, fast.

 Be part of a product led business where everyone cares about

the quality of what we are building.

 Make a meaningful contribution to the product and our clients.

 Get the support you need to do a great job (iMac or whatever

your prefer, the software you need, personal development
budget, regular 1:1s, etc).

 Get access to senior managers across the business, whenever

you want.

 Visit our office in Jersey regularly (if you’re working remote).

 Have unlimited holidays.

 Be able to work where and when you want (as long as you’re
getting the job done).

 Get top of the line healthcare for you and your family.

 Get a meaningful equity allocation.
