Role Director of Software Engineering, Data Platform

Pune, India (Hybrid)


We are looking for a Director of Software Engineering, Data Platform to be part of Forma AI

What you'll be doing:
Reporting to our Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Director of Software Engineering - Data Platform will lead
and scale the data platform team and technologies globally.
This will be our first technical hire in our Pune office and will influence the growth and structure of the India
Engineering team.
You will:
● Commitment to hire, retain, grow, and lead a team of software engineers working on our
next-generation data platform powered by Databricks. You will be responsible for recruiting top
engineering talent and building a well-developed people management philosophy to drive team
performance.
● Provide consistent communication with product management and customer onboarding teams to
understand and implement customer requirements (e.g., stand up new product features in a
standardized, repeatable way when feasible, customize requirements when appropriate, etc.).
● Be ready to collaborate closely with the North American teams to establish support and enforce best
practices for existing customers and onboard new ones.
● Develop recommendations and standardizations in how we design and implement new building blocks
on our data platform to streamline popular use cases and allow for local differences where
advantageous.
● You will have technical accountability in the data platform group and will guide the team as they
support and maintain data processing pipelines, create new ones, while evolving and improving our
platform.
Be in our Pune office 3-days a week (hybrid)

What we're looking for:


● Have 10+ years of experience in software development.
● Ability to build successful peer partnerships working with leaders across Engineering, Product, and
Professional Services.
● Prior experience leading a product-focussed Engineering team where you have worked through the
startup & growth stage and succeeded in navigating the complexity, chaos, and excitement
● Strong people leadership capabilities in mentoring and coaching teams of around 10-20 engineers
with prior experience leading managers and/or leads.
● Demonstrates technical depth with Python, relational databases, and data platform scaling that will
enable you to guide and support the engineering team.
● In a past life, a software engineer with heavy exposure to data. Note this is not a hands-on coding
role, but you should be able to dive into technical details as needed.
● Nice to have:
● Background in building data platforms with Spark (ideally on Databricks) and a background in
traditional relational database and ETL technologies.
Previous experience working at a start-up.
