The main character of The Danish Girl is Lili Elbe formerly known as Einar Wegener.

Was a
Danish painter and is a transgender woman. She lived to 48 years of age. But sadly she passed
away due to cardiac arrest. The reason for her cardiac arrest was that during her transition in to
becoming a woman her immune system rejected the transplanted uterus. Which led to frequent
surgeries and it caused an infection. Three months after transitioning she did because of that.

Now the reason why Einar Wegener transitioned into a woman was because he felt that he was a
woman trapped in a man’s body essentially. And to me she didn’t have any psychological issues
at all. This is mainly a story about someone doing things that they feel the need to do. Lili Elbe
was a person that found out that they were a woman trapped in the body of a man. And she found
it necessary to change that. So that she can be at peace with how she truly feels.

Am I in favor of gender reassignment? I would say so. That is because if you feel as though you
aren’t who you truly are. Then who’s to stop you from becoming that version of yourself. And
this should be common sense but It’ your body you do what you want with it.

After seeing the film. I have gathered 3 insights from it. The first one being that some people feel
that they constricted with their biological gender and need to become free of that. The second is
that there will be people that will support you in these types of things. Because to these people
your happiness is what matters. And what right do they have to take that away from you. And the
last insight is about one’s self discovery. Just finding out who you truly are is a relieving.
Because now you know what it means to be well you.
