1. Why did Abbu Khan’s goats want to run away? What happened to them in the hills?
Abbu Khan’s goats wanted to run away in order to enjoy freedom.
They were killed and eaten up by a wolf in the hills.

2. Why did he buy a young goat?


Abbu Khan bought a young goat thinking that it would stay with him much longer and
would never go to the hills.

3. Why did Chandni hate the rope around her neck?


Chandni wanted to run away to enjoy the beauty and freshness of the hills. But the rope
around her neck would not let her go. So, she hated the rope.

4. “Now Abbu Khan understood Chandni’s problems.” What was Chandni’s problem?
Chandni’s problem was that she wanted to go to the hills and enjoy her freedom but she
felt restricted in Abbu Khan’s small hut.
5. Why did the wise old bird say, “Chandni is the winner?”
The wise old bird said so because even though Chandni was weak and small in front of the
wolf, she didn’t give up and put up a brave fight to save her freedom.

6. “Death in an open field is better than life in a small hut,” Chandni said to herself.
Was it the right decision? Give reason for your answer.
Yes, her decision was right. Chandni could have gone back to Abbu Khan and saved her
life but she chose to fight with the wolf instead to attain her freedom. She preferred to die
for freedom than live in captivity.

7. “Freedom is life. Discuss this with reference to “Chandni” and “I want something in a
cage.”
Freedom is the most precious thing in life. Chandni loved her freedom and got it at the cost
of her life. The stranger in the lesson, “I want something in a cage” spends all he had to
buy freedom for the caged birds.
