When to use present perfect ??

You must always use the present perfect


when the time of an action is not
important or not specified.And it used to
indicate a link between the present and
the past. The time of the action is before
now but not specified, and we are often
more interested in the result than in the
action itself.
When to use past simple ?

Use the past simple to talk


about a finished action that
happened at a specific time. For
example, “I went out with my
friends last night.” The adverb
“last night” is not required, but
it does help clarify that the
event happened at a specific
time.

Present Perfect Past Simple

We use the present perfect for actions which We use the past simple for past events or
started in the past and are still happening now actions which have no connection to the present
OR for finished actions which have a connection
to the present. We use it with finished actions, states or habits
in the past when we have a finished time word
We CAN'T use the present perfect with a (yesterday, last week, at 2 o'clock, in 2003).

Past Simple Examples

1. She finished her work at six o’clock.

3. It discovered a new land.

4. We watched a movie last weekend.

5. We were good friends.
