Simulation of Logistics Systems (ISE 450)

Group project (30%)

Project presentation (PPT) (15%)
Project report (Word file) and Simulation file (15%)

Schedule of Activities:
- Project presentation
- Project report submission

Project Aim:
Perform simulation in process with the use of the latest technology for Logistics 4.0

Suggested Areas of Group Project

You can choose one of the following suggested technologies to mimic the improvement for a
logistics company.
1. Virtual reality/ augmented reality
2. Digital Twin
3. Blockchain
4. AI/ Generative AI

- All proposed cases must be off-campus operations -

Guidelines for Project Presentation

As a part of the evaluation process, all teams are required to participate in a presentation session
of 10 minutes, the presentation should include the following items:
1. Present the objectives of the project and demonstrate how to model in the simulation.
2. Discuss results and findings.
3. Answer queries from the board.

Guidelines for Project Proposal

All teams are required to submit a project report. It should be less than 15 A4-size pages long,
excluding appendices. It incorporates and updates the project proposal as required, and adds
materials regarding the design of the model, model results, and conclusions. The following
elements should be included in the proposal:

1. Project title - Select a title for your project that could clearly reflect the content of your
project

2. Introduction & Background

 Create an industrial/logistics case
 Problem statement
 Explain the importance of your objectives
i.e. cost effectiveness, reducing the lead time, increasing efficiency, utilizing the resource,
reducing the waiting time, streamlining the process, etc.
 Single objective or multiple objectives?
 Make assumptions to simplify the case

3. Technology Used
 Explain how it can be applied to improve the logistics process
 Elaboration on the technology and method used
 Assumption for modeling

4. Modeling Building Process

 The high-level sequence of activities you went through to build the model
 Data sources and data collection methods

5. Model Summary
 Data collection (if applicable)
 Diagrams (system layout, logical flow of entities, etc.)
 Locations, queues, conveyors
 Entities & attributes
 Path networks, resources
 Prob. fns. associated with arrival processes, service processes, and routing logic
 Key assumptions and limitations

6. Model Testing (if applicable)

 Comparison of model behavior to actual system behavior
 Extreme conditions/sensitivity to key parameters

7. Model Application/findings
 Results (tables/reports/graphs/output analysis/etc.)
 Interpretation of the results

8. Conclusions (what you learned)

 The business goal and achievement of your simulation.
 About the model you built for the target system
 About system simulation as an analytical tool

9. Appendices (if necessary)

 Additional model details, data, etc.

10. Future Plan

 Plan of data collection if necessary
 How to model your problem (A rough system plan if possible)
 Discussion and conclusion, that you planned to make

11. Responsibilities of Team Members

 Role of each team member and his/her expected contribution to the project.
