NATIONAL NEWS
CABINET APPROVAL
☞ The Cabinet Committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the continuation of the
central sector plan 'Exploration of Coal and Lignite scheme' with an estimated expenditure of Rs 2,980
crore.
☞ They also approved a revival plan for the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) worth Rs 89,047
crore.
☞ They also had removed the procurement ceiling of 40 per cent on three pulses tur, urad and masur under
the price support scheme (PSS) for the 2023-24 crop year (July-June) to enhance domestic production.
☞ They also hiked the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy by Rs 143 to Rs 2,183 per quintal for the
2023-24 crop year (July-June) in order to encourage farmers to bring more area under the crop and boost
their income.
☞ They also approved metro connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City in Gurugram with a spur line
to Dwarka Expressway at a cost of Rs 5,452 crore.
☞ The Union Cabinet cleared the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill.
☞ The Cabinet had reportedly cleared amendments to the Mines and Minerals (Development and
Regulation) Act, 1957, to allow commercial mining of lithium and other critical minerals, including
beryllium, titanium, niobium, tantalum and zirconium.
☞ The Union Cabinet had also approved Rs. 1.3 trillion ($17 billion) worth of investments to drive the next
stage of the government's ambitious Bharatnet project which aims to provide every Indian village with
fixed-line broadband connectivity.
☞ The Cabinet Committee had also approved seven projects of the Ministry of Railways with an estimated
cost of around 32 thousand 500 crore rupees, with 100% funding from Central Government.
☞ Cabinet also approved extension of Digital India project with an outlay of Rs 14,903 crores.
☞ The Cabinet Committee also upped the existing subsidy for Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries by Rs 200, taking
the overall subsidy per cylinder to Rs 400.
☞ The Union Cabinet had also approved a scheme for providing viability gap funding (VGF) for developing
battery storage of 4 gigawatt (Gw) by 2030-31.
☞ The Government had approved the continuation of the Central Sector Scheme “Broadcasting
Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND)” with an outlay of 2539.61 crore rupees for the period
2021-26 for upgradation of broadcasting infrastructure and network development of Prasar Bharati
(Akashvani and Doordarshan).
☞ The Union Cabinet had also approved the extension of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for release
of 75 lakh LPG connections over three years from Financial Year 2023-24 to 2025-26.
☞ The union cabinet also approved the FDI proposal for foreign investment of up to Rs.9589 crore in M/s
Suven Pharmaceuticals Limited by M/s Berhyanda Limited, Cyprus.
☞ The cabinet also approved the eCourts Project Phase III as a Central Sector Scheme spanning four years
(2023 onwards) with financial outlay of Rs.7210 crores.
☞ The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its approval for introduction in
Parliament, a Bill, namely, the Central Universities (Amendment), Bill, 2023 further to amend the Central
Universities Act, 2009 for setting up of Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University at Mulugu District in
the State of Telangana as provided in the Thirteenth Schedule to the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation
Act, 2014 (no. 6 of 2014), as per the official announcement.
☞ Union Cabinet had also approved an increase in LPG subsidy, raising it from the current 200 rupees per
cylinder to 300 rupees per cylinder for the beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
BILLS
☞ Parliament passed the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which entails provisions for sharing
benefits of biodiversity commerce with locals and also decriminalises biodiversity offences.
☞ Parliament also passed Multi-State Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill 2023.
☞ Rajya Sabha passed the Offshore Areas Mineral (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill 2023.

☞ The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, had released an amount of Rs. 7,532 crores to 22

☞ Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the Corporate
Debt Market Development Fund (CDMDF) and initiated the muhurat trading on Limited Purpose Clearing
Corporation mechanism called AMC Repo Clearing Limited (ARCL), in Mumbai.
☞ The Finance Ministry approved various welfare measures for Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC)
agents and employees.
☞ Online gaming, betting, casinos, gambling, horse racing, and lottery will attract twenty-eight percent

☞ The University Grants Commission (UGC) had announced a new initiative titled ‘NEP SAARTHI- Student
Ambassador for Academic Reforms in Transforming Higher Education in India’ to involve students in the
implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
☞ Union Minister of Education and Skill Development, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan released the UGC
(Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023 in the presence of Prof. Jagadesh Kumar,
Chairman, UGC and Shri Sanjay Murthy, Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education.
☞ Union Minister of State for Education Smt. Annapurna Devi inaugurated the multimedia exhibition

☞ 238 Vande Bharat Metro trains will be procured under the ambitious Mumbai Urban Transport Project-III
(MUTP-III) and 3A (MUTP-3A), which are being held by the Railway ministry and the Maharashtra
government to augment the capacity of the metropolis' suburban train network.
☞ The Consultative Committee of Members of Parliament for the Ministry of Railways resolved to upgrade
1,275 railway stations under Amrit Bharat Station, decision was taken at a meeting in New Delhi.
☞ With a view to optimize utilization of accommodation in trains, Ministry of Railways had decided to
delegate powers to Zonal Railways to introduce discounted fare scheme in trains with AC sitting

MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS
☞ The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Ministry of Communications had offered the
usage of 5G Test Bed free of cost to the Start-ups and MSMEs recognised by the Government of India up
to January 2024.
☞ The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India had announced the launch of
‘Learning Science via Standards’, a unique initiative for students for learning science via standards.
MINISTRY OF POWER
☞ Country’s power generation capacity from solar had increased 197 percent in the last five years.
☞ The solar capacity of the country had increased from 21,651 mega-watt to 64,380 mega-watt in the last
five years.
☞ The study titled "Pathways to Atmanirbhar Bharat" stated India can achieve energy independence by
2047, when it celebrates 100 years of independence also India's energy infrastructure needs an investment
of USD3 trillion in the coming decades.
☞ Coal India Ltd had breached its annual production target of 700 million tonnes, the first time it had
surpassed its goal since the fiscal year that ended in March 2006.
☞ Sarbananda Sonowal and Parshottam Rupala laid the foundation stone of Modernisation and
Upgradation Works of Cochin Fishing Harbour at Thoppumpady in Kerala at an estimated cost of Rs
169.17 crores.
☞ Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Minister Parshottam Rupala informed that there is an increase
of 83 Million Metric Tons in Milk production in the last nine years compared to the 121 Million Metric
Tons increase in the last 60 years.

☞ The Centre is setting up a Civil Aviation Research Organisation (CARO) at the Begumpet airport,

☞ Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region, G. Kishan Reddy said the

Government of Telangana and World Economic Forum (WEF) launched ‘Saagu Baagu’ project phase-I
Insights report. Telangana’s “Saagu Baagu” (agricultural advancement) pilot project with the guidance of
the World Economic Forum (WEF) had impacted the lives of over 7,000 chilli farmers in the State and the
second phase of the project is set to take off.

scheme received a ray of hope after the Aam Admi Party (AAP) government in Punjab agreed in-principle

☞ The Siddaramaiah government had projected to spend around Rs 52,000 crore in the Congress five poll
guarantees but even then it managed to retain the fiscal deficit at 2.6 per cent of the gross state domestic

TAMIL NADU

☞ The Defence Ministry has approved the purchase of a regiment of 'Pralay' ballistic missiles for the Indian
