Systems Approved by:

1.0 Purpose
To acquaint user with Section 4 and it’s intended usage.

2.0 Scope
Applies to field and office personal.

3.0 Definitions

4.0 Procedure
 Work through a sample of examples that relate to calculations required for fieldwork.
 A calculator, pen or pencil and work sheet is required.
 This material will be used in conjunction with course material for training purposes.

4.1 Section 4 – Conversion Factors, Formulas, Grid Systems

 Pages 4-1 to 4-21 contain conversion factors, to use:

“From” unit x “conversion factor” = “To” unit

or

“To” unit / “conversion factor” = “From” unit

Examples:

8152 m² = ______________ acres

Page 4-1: “From” acres x 4,047 = “To” sq. meters

So: 8152 / 4047 = 2.014 acres

100 atmospheres = _______________ psi

Page 4-1: atmospheres x 14.7 = pounds/sq. inch

So: 100 x 14.7 = 1470 psi

 Pages 4-22 to 4-29 contain various Formulas in which the numerical information you
have or receive from the Customer is inputted into the formula where the term calls for
it. It may require that a combination of these formulas be used to determine an answer.

 Page 4-22 contains Basic Formulas for fluid calculations, Corrosion and CO2

 Page 4-23 & 24 has the formulas for working with the pressures involved in fracturing
as well some formulas involved with Sand calculations

 Page 4-24 at the bottom begins with Geometric Formulas and continues on Page 4-25

 Page 4-26 & 27 deals with formulas relating to Nitrogen

 Page 4-27 at the bottom contains formulas to deal with Power

 Page 4-28 contains more formulas to work with Sand or Proppants

 Page 4-29 has 3 separate formulas for Radial Flow, Temperature conversions and
velocity

 Page 4-30 contains a conversion chart for Temperatures based on the formula on Page
4-29

 Page 4-31 deals with the Alberta & Saskatchewan grid system

 Page 4-32 deals with the British Columbia grid system

 Page 4-33 gives the internet address for a site to LSD’s for the North West Territories
