CREATE a case study for a healthy patient. (15 marks)

1. Patient History (1 mark)

a. Include demographics and clinical presentation

2. Correlating CBC Results (10 parameters) (9 marks)

a. Fill in the table below.
b. Include numerical values and units.
c. Interpret each result (L,N,H) using the reference ranges provided for
theory assignments
d. Use the Hb, Hct, and RBC count to show your calculations for the rule
of three, MCV, MCH and MCHC. Make sure your indices correlate with
the clinical picture.

3. Peripheral Blood Film (4 marks)

a. Draw a correlating microscopic field in the circle provided
b. Include all three cell populations and correlate with the CBC results
c. Include a small normal lymphocyte to use as a “micrometer” for RBC
size comparison
d. You may use a “paint” program to draw the cells, but make sure your
colours match with what you would see under the microscope.
e. I am not looking for works of art! As long as the cells resemble their
respective categories and your microscope drawing correlates with the
CBC indices, you will receive full marks.

4. Professional and Academic Integrity (1 mark)

a. Cite your work using Vancouver referencing style
b. Create original information and data—ie not “googled”, not shared
among students, and not sourced/copied from labs, textbook/cell atlas
or PowerPoint lectures
