1 INTRODUCTION
The SeaSTAR 3510LR is an F band receiver used to interface
Inmarsat terminals of standard A, B, F and M type. It is also
used as a demodulator for SeaSTAR spotbeam DGPS corrections
using a compact dome antenna. It is supplied by Fugro.
WARNING
The equipment includes high voltage
(110/230VAC).

Note
The guidelines for installation presented here must be regarded
as a base for detailed plans prepared by the installation shipyard.
These plans must include drawings, instructions and procedures
specific to the ship in which the equipment is to be installed.
These drawings must be approved by the local maritime
classification society.

Note
Unless stated otherwise, all installation work and mounting
equipment described in this document is to be performed
by yard/customer personnel. It is the responsibility of the
yard/customer to assure that their installation personnel are
sufficiently qualified, and that proper caution is taken to avoid
injuries or damage to life, health, environment, equipment and
property.

Kongsberg Maritime AS accepts no responsibility for any damage

or injury to the system, ship or personnel caused by drawings,
instructions or procedures not prepared by Kongsberg Maritime.

3 INSTALLATION

3.1 General information

3.1.1 SeaSTAR 3510LR Demodulator

The SeaSTAR 3510LR Demodulator is a small lightweight,
ruggedly built unit used to demodulate (decode) the correction
data received in a compressed format at L-Band The demodulator
is equipped with a enhanced differential solution software.

3.2 Location of the unit

When the SeaSTAR 3510LR unit is used as Inmarsat demodulator
it should be located as close as possible to the Inmarsat receiver.
Recommended distance is maximum 10 m. This will ensure
minimum signal loss in the coaxial cables as well as being the
best location for trouble shooting.
Any other location of this unit should be discussed with
Kongsberg Maritime before installing.
The demodulator enclosure protection is IP30, which means
indoor installation.
The unit has cooling ribs on top, which means that it needs
minimum 50 mm clear way above to any surface for appropriate
cooling.
The Power Supply location should be adjacent to the demodulator
in order to use the standard cables. For length of Power Supply
cables, refer to section 2.2.

3.3 Logistics
Safety: General safety precautions
should be followed when
working in the Mast or
Electronic Equipment.
Personnel qualifications: Trained mechanical workers
(For interfacing to some
INMARSAT terminals
qualifications in electronic
equipment is recommended).
Min. no. of personnel: One.
Ship location: No recommendations,
however access to
INMARSAT correction
signals is recommended for
verification of installation.
Special tools required: None.

3.4 Handling
Equipment contains delicate electronic components – handle
accordingly.
Equipment can be lifted by hand.

3.5 Mechanical installation

3.5.1 SeaSTAR 3510LR Demodulator
For mechanical installation of the SeaSTAR 3510LR demodulator
refer to drawing number 36200-MD-034 attached in section 4.

3.5.2 Power Supply

Use Panduit straps or yard/customer supplied U-bracket and
attach the Power Supply to its base.
The power supply connector should also be strapped to the mains
socket to avoid any loss of power. No mounting detail is needed
for this.

3.6 Electrical installation

3.6.1 SeaSTAR 3510LR Demodulator
Refer to Figure 1 for an overview of the demodulator connections,
and to Figure 2 for identification and location of the connectors
on the rear side of the demodulator.

Installation Manual

To perform electrical installation of the demodulator, proceed

as follows:
1 RF: Female TNC-type connector for the coaxial cable
to Inmarsat, which is either the Narda RF-coupler or the
terminal.
2 Data and Command Port: 9 pin female D-sub connector
for the RS232/RS422 port that transmits data to the GPS
computer.
The demodulator is delivered with 1 meter data cable.
For pin allocation and layout for data cable connector, refer
to Table 1 and Figure 3.

3 POWER: 3 pin female Switchcraft EN3C3F connector is

used.
The demodulator is delivered with a separate power supply.
For pin allocation and layout for the power connector, refer
to Table 2 and to Figure 4.

3.6.2 Interfacing to Std B and M terminals

Figure 1 shows how to connect the SeaSTAR 3510LR
Demodulator to a terminal or directly to the antenna cable using
a Narda RF coupler.
If the Inmarsat signal is fetched directly from a terminal, the
enclosed cable should be used between the terminal and the
SeaSTAR 3510LR Demodulator.
If the terminal has no output to the demodulator, the enclosed
Narda RF coupler must be inserted into the antenna cable.
The terminal-to-coupler cable should be maximum 2 meter long
and have sufficient cross section to allow high current feed to the
antenna. It is, however, recommended to connect the coupler
directly into the terminal using appropriate connector adapters.
Such adapters will normally be enclosed with the demodulator
delivery.
