PART4.

Characteristics
4.1 Intercom (Inter-Party Talking)
An extension user can make an internal call by dialing the Telephone number

of counter party. When the counter party is free, calling party hears a ringback

tone until the counter party makes a response. When the counter party is busy,

calling party hears a busy tone. In this case, calling party can make a "Priority

Call" or "Internal Call-Back" ( See 4-3. Priority Call, 4-7. Internal Call-Back ).

Di a l c o u n t e r No.

< Figure 2-A >

When the conversation is completed and either party hooks on the handset,

speech channel will be reset and another party hears a busy tone indicating

conversation end.

4.2 Add-On Conference

This feature allows any extension user to make a call to the third party, while

engaged in a inter-party talking, thus makes a conference possible with three

parties or more (maximum 5 parties). During inter-party talking, either party

makes a "hook-flash" and after confirming a dial tone, dials the telephone

number of the third party while remained party is held on a music tone. If the

third party is free, add-on calling party hears a ring-back tone until the third

- 13 -
makes a response. If the third party makes a response, three party conference is

established and music is cleared for the held party. If the third party is busy, add-

on calling party hears a busy tone. In any case, the second "hook flash" by the

add-on calling party, while engaged in add-on call procedure, will restore the

speech channel and music for the held party is cleared.

< Figure 2-B >

In the same way, fourth and fifth parties can participate in conference. If more

than or equal to two parties are held, then music is not supplied. In this case,

original speech channel is honored and conversation is possible between held

parties.

4.3 Priority Call

This feature allows higher extension user, while making a call, to interrupt

lower priority extension when the called party is busy. If calling party hears a

busy tone after dialing counter party telephone number and wants to make an

interrupt, then makes a "hook-flash" and after confirming a dial tone, dials a

priority call digit “ X ”. If interrupting party priority is lower than that of

counter party, then interrupting party hears a warning tone and can not interrupt.

- 14 -
When the counter party is engaged in an external call or in another priority

feature procedure, interrupting party can't interrupt and hears a warning tone as

well.

< Figure 3-C >

In case that the counter party is engaged in an internal call, counter party hears

a warning tone for 2 seconds, indicating interruption, and after that, three party

conference is established. If the counter party is engaged in making a call,

counter party's procedure will be cancelled and, after hearing a warning tone for

2 seconds, he will be interrupted.

4.4 Paging Call (Public Address)

Extensions given with paging call priority are permitted access to the paging

equipment by dialing a paging call digit “ X ”. This feature allows to make an

announcement through speaker(s).

If the paging system is free speech channel will be connected by relay, while a

preliminary tone (electronic -17- chime bell) is supplied to the telephone and

- 15 -
speaker(s) for 2 seconds. In case that paging system is busy, a busy tone is

heard from telephone handset.

4.5 External Call

The user of an extension given with this feature priority can make an outgoing

call through trunk by dialing this feature digit “ X ” and wanted number. After

dialing digit “ X “, make sure of dial tone from trunk. And then dial the wanted

number. If all trunks are busy, a busy tone will be heard. In this case, wait for

some time after hook-on and retry later, or make an external call-back (see 2-8.

External Call-Back)

< Figure 1-E >

If an incoming call is present on a trunk, pre-assigned extension (one, two or

three extensions) receives an external ring. The user of preassigned extension

- 16 -
can make a response to the incoming call by hooking off the telephone handset

during external ringing. When a user dials digit "9" to make an external call, if

there is an incoming call on a trunk, incoming call is connected firstly.

4.6 Internal Call-Back

When making an internal call, if the called party is busy and calling party

wants to make an internal call-back, then calling party makes a "hook-flash".

After confirming a dial tone from telephone handset, then calling party dials an

internal call-back digit “ X “. Calling party will hear a ring-back tone from the

handset for 10 seconds, indicating internal call-back activated to the called

party, then hear a busy tone and speech channel for calling party will be reset.

Dial "X"

< Figure 2-G >

If both parties, call-back calling and call-back called, become free, internal call-back

calling party receives an internal ring for 30 seconds and will be excluded from internal

call-back service if call-back calling party doesn't make a response within that time by

hooking off the telephone handset. If internal call-back calling party makes a response

within 30 seconds, he hears a ring-back tone and call-back called party receives an internal

ring. Following procedure is the same as that of inter-party call. In case that internal

call-back called party is engaged in another call procedure before call-back calling party

makes a response, then the calling party hears a busy tone from the telephone handset

- 17 -
when the hooks off in response to internal call-back ringing. But the internal call-back

remains effective.

4.7 External Call-Back

When making an outgoing call, if all trunks are busy and external calling party

wants to make an external call-back, then calling party makes an "hook-flash"

and after confirming a dial tone from the handset, dials external call-back digit

“ X “. The party hears a ring-back tone from the handset for 10 seconds indicating

external call-back activated. But, when the external call-back queue is full, the

party hears a busy tone and is released from speech channel. If any trunk becomes

idle, external call-back activated party receives an external ring. By hooking off

the hand-set, external call-back activated party seizures a trunk automatically, and

hears a dial tone from trunk. In this case, dialing telephone number only without

an external call digit “ X ” makes an external call. When there are several external

call-backs in the queue, priorities will be honored first and then time sequence.

4.8. Call Forwarding

Station users can forward internal and outside calls to other destinations

immediately (Forward All), when busy (Forward Busy) or if not answered in a

programmable number of seconds (Forward No Answer). These forward

- 18 -
destinations can all be different. Once a destination has been programmed. It can be

turned on and off with a programmable key. Forward All Calls takes priority over

Busy and No Answer conditions. In addition to the three usual methods of for

warding described above, a fourth option called Follow Me is available. This option

allows station users to set a Forward All condition from their station to another

station while at the remote station. Keyset users can be given an external call

forward button to forward their calls to external phone number. Each outside line

may be programmed to either follow up or ignore station call forwarding. A per-

station option allows internal calls to either forward or not forward to voice mail.

Single line telephones must have the system administrator program this feature for

them.

4.9 Call Pickup

With directed call pickup, a user can answer calls ringing at any station by dialing

a code plus that extension number. The group pickup feature allows you to answer

any call ringing within a pickup group. Pickup keys may be customized with

extenders to allow pickup from a specific station or pickup group. The DCS-1240I

has 20 programmable pickup groups.

4.10 Station Message Detail Recording (SMDR)(Call Logging)

The system provides-via an optional SIM-records of calls made, received and

transferred. Connecting a customer-provided printer or call accounting system will

allow fir collection of these records. Each call record provides details of station

- 19 -
number, outside line number, start date, start time, duration of call, digits dialed

(maximum 18) and an account code if entered. The system may print a header

followed by 50 call records per page or send continuous records with no header for

use with a call accounting machine. See sample printout on page 4-23. The SMDP

format contains many options that allow it to be customized for a company’s

individual needs. Options to print include incoming calls, outgoing calls, in and out

of group status, change in DND status and authorization codes.
