Function and Principle


Description

Flap Valve: Facilitates flow into the pump, seals vacuum in the pipes and prevents backflow.
Macerator: The macerator grinds any solids to a fine pulp.
Helical Screw: The helical screw uses liquid to create a seal facilitating vacuum in the pump housing.
Shaft: The shaft is the connecting factor between the macerator, helical screw and motor. It supports and rotates the helical screw and macerator.
Motor: Supplies power to support pump function.
Fan: The fan provides cooling for the motor.
Inlet: Flow inlet from the source into the pump.
Outlet: Flow outlet from the pump to the pipe connection/discharge.

Pre-Installation
The following installation information is only applicable for single pump installations. If a Vacuum Unit is supplied by Jets Vacuum AS, please refer
to the Vacuum Unit information.

Installation Site Considerations

1. Installation space requirements can be determined from the dimension drawing.


2. Proper lifting devices should be available for installation, service and maintenance.
3. The location of the installation should have sufficient clearance around the pump to allow for ventilation and heat dispersal.
4. Select a mounting plate which will minimize vibration and torsion of the baseplate. A solid and sturdy base is necessary.
5. To ease service of the pump we recommend installing a shut-off valve on both the inlet and the outlet of the pump (not included in product
delivery).
6. Ensure that all safety information has been read and precautions have been taken.
7. Installation must comply with all local, state and federal safety codes and practices.

Installation
Lifting Instructions

1.10 Warning
Failure to properly lift and support equipment can result in serious physical injury and/or equipment damage.

The pump must be lifted, moved and transported in a horizontal position.

Lifting precautions:
● Total weight
● Center of gravity
● Maximum outside dimensions

Generally, it is recommended that the pump be transported on a pallet or similar using a forklift or with appropriate lifting equipment. For safe lifting
with a crane, it is recommended to use appropriately dimensioned and certified straps, slings or belts.

6.10 Warning
• Do not stand under or pass beneath an elevated load.
• Do not stand within the swing radius of the lifting equipment.
• Never leave the lifting equipment unattended with an elevated load.
• Wear proper PPE (hardhat, safety shoes and gloves should be worn as a precaution when lifting the load).
• Keep bystanders at a safe distance.
• Never use two lifting devices in tandem to lift the load.
• If the person receiving this technical information will not be the user of the lifting equipment, forward these instructions to the operator.
• If there is any doubt as to the operation or safety of the equipment, do not lift the load.
• Failure to follow these instructions could result in damage to equipment, injury or death.

Prior to Lifting a Vacuumarator™ Pump

Drain the pump of all liquid. Rinse and plug any openings to prevent spillage. For instructions regarding draining the pump, refer to the service and
maintenance information for the pump.

Correct Vacuumarator™ Pump Lifting Method

The following is Jets Vacuum AS recommended lifting method. The


following method has been fully tested and adopted as the most
suitable means of lifting the pump.

Position the straps as illustrated. Using appropriately dimensioned


lifting equipment, slowly raise the pump from the surface.

Installation Steps

1. Do not remove the protective covering on the pumps inlet and outlet until connecting the pipes.
2. Flush the piping system and any connections to the pump to ensure that all foreign objects have been removed prior to connection.
3. The piping system should be leak tested before connecting the pump.
4. Connect the inlet pipe to the suction side of the pump.
5. Connect the outlet pipe to the pressure side of the pump.
6. Remove the fan cover. Manually rotate the shaft by hand turning the fan. Ensure that all moving parts rotate freely without obstruction. Re-fit
the fan cover.
7. Ensure that the pump is placed on a flat surface and that all four fundament flanges are in contact with the surface.
8. Secure the pump to the base plate.

Electrical Installation

Prior to connecting any electrical wiring, ensure that all electrical safety warnings are read and understood. Take the necessary precautions to
prevent accident, injury or damage to equipment.
Electrical connection details are located on the motor name plate.

3.1 Warning
All wiring should be performed by a licensed or certified electrician.

3.28 Warning
Never work on the equipment when power is applied.

Electrical Connection:
1. Ensure that the pump is protected against overload.
2. When connecting the pump, be sure to ground the motor.
3. Connect the electrical wiring as per the connection details on the products name plate.
4. Check that the rotation direction of the shaft is correct in relation to the rotation direction on the serial number label. Note that incorrect
rotation may result in damage to the pump.

Operation
Startup Procedures

Following installation, the following standard startup procedures are to be carried out to ensure pump function.

7.16 Warning
Do not run the pump dry. Running the pump without sufficient water will result in damage to equipment. Ensure that a sufficient water level is maintained.

1. Ensure that all obstructions have been removed.


2. Carry out a visual inspection of the pump ensuring no damage has occurred during installation.
3. Look through the plexiglas to check that there are no obstructions.
4. Check that the pump is filled with water. If not, remove the plug on the side of the suction chamber. Fill the pump with water. Re-fasten the
plug.
5. Ensure that the inlet and outlet pipes are securely fastened.
6. Ensure that the electrical connections are according to the motor name plate.
7. Remove the fan cover. Manually rotate the shaft by hand turning the fan. Ensure that all moving parts rotate freely without obstruction. Re-fit
the fan cover.
8. Turn on the power supply.
9. Check the rotation direction is in accordance with the serial number label. Observe the rotation on the motor end of the pump.
10. Check that the pump generates vacuum by operating the system (i.e. flush the toilet).
11. If abnormal operation, vibration or noise is experienced, shut down the pump immediately. Refer to the troubleshooting guidelines.

Startup Testing

1. Leak test the pump by filling the pump with water and checking for leaks. Any indication of leaking should be fixed using approved methods by
a qualified person. See the products service and maintenance information for details. If no leak is found the pump is deemed acceptable.
2. Test the amperage to ensure that results are within the given readings on the motor name plate.

Service and Maintenance


Intended Use

To maintain the expected operational lifetime, the following must be adhered to.
1. Do not pump liquids containing cleaners that create foam.
2. Minimize pumping of liquids containing caustic cleaners (such as drain cleaner) or bleach.
3. Minimize pumping of chlorine or corrosive cleaners.
Mild soap or biological cleaners are recommended. See Jets Vacuum AS product range for suitable cleaning solutions.

Scale Build Up

Pumps used for pumping wastewater are subject to mineral scale build-up. Regular follow-up during maintenance intervals is recommended based
on pump usage. Mineral scale build-up, if left untreated, may affect the performance of the pump.
To treat mineral scale build-up, it is necessary to flush a suitable descale solution through the pump. Jets™ descale products are recommended.

Annual Descaling of the Vacuumarator™ Pump

1. Shut down the pump. Follow step 1 to 13 under the Shutting down the Vacuumarator™ pump.
2. Re-attach all the parts that were removed to drain the pump.
3. Fill the pump with Jets™ Descale Gel, until it overflows the inlet of the pump.
4. Allow to react for a minimum of 24 hours.
5. Connect the inlet pipe to the suction side of the pump.
6. Connect the outlet pipe to the pressure side of the pump.
7. Open the valves on the inlet and the outlet of the pump, if installed.
8. Connect the power to the pump and set it into operation.
9. Flush the pump with water through the connection on the side of the suction chamber or through the flap cleaning valve.

Cleaning or Flushing the Vacuumarator™ Pump

Fresh water supply may be connected to the suction chamber on the pump to flush and clean, when necessary, and to fill the pump with water
after service.

Freezing Conditions

For locations where freezing may occur, frost protection measures must be taken. For further information contact Jets Vacuum AS or your nearest
supplier.

The following must be adhered to when the pump is subjected to freezing conditions.
1. In use: Feed appropriate quantities of suitable antifreeze solution into the system.
2. Storage: Drain the pump of liquid. See instructions under "Shutting Down the Pump".
Caution: Never use automotive antifreeze (ethylene glycol) in the system.
Note: Failure to adequately protect the pump from damages may result in void of your warranty coverage. Jets Vacuum AS reserves the right to
deny any warranty claim submitted if the claim is caused by freezing damage.

Jets Vacuum AS provides all customers with 24 hour worldwide technical assistance. For urgent matters, please contact Jets Vacuum AS Service
Department at +47 70 03 91 00. For other matters, please contact your nearest authorized supplier.
When making enquiries, please have the following information available.
● Order Number
● Pump model number
● Pump serial number (the serial number identification is located on the label applied to the pump)
● Part number, quantity

Shutting Down the Vacuumarator™ Pump

3.28 Warning
Never work on the equipment when power is applied.

1.4 Caution
Safety equipment (PPE) necessary for the prevention of accidents at the installation and operating site must be provided in accordance with local regulations.

When taking a pump out of service, the following must be adhered to.
1. Run freshwater through the pump before shutting it down. This is done to reduce the risk of transmission of parasitic organisms.
2. Disconnect the power to the pump.
3. Disconnect the power cable, earthing cable and temperature sensor, if installed.
4. Close the valves on the inlet and the outlet of the pump, if installed.
5. Position a suitable container under the pumps suction chamber.
6. Unfasten the screws holding the cover in place.
7. Carefully drain the suction chamber. Note that it is not possible to drain it completely.
8. Position the container under the pumps pressure chamber.
9. Unfasten the plug at the bottom of the pressure chamber and drain it.
10. Disconnect the inlet pipe from the suction side of the pump.
11. Disconnect the outlet pipe from the pressure side of the pump.
12. Unscrew the pump from the baseplate/unscrew any installed vibration dampers.
13. If it is necessary to transport the pump, follow the lifting instruction guidelines.

Service Tools

Service Jig:
It is strongly recommended to use a service jig when performing service on the pump.
Note: If the pump is placed vertically on the fan cover, the cover can break and the pump can fall over.

Macerator Allignment Tool:


It is recommended to use a macerator allignment tool when performing service on or replacing the macerator.
