It’s appeared in the method era basically in the
20th century. It was suggested to teach Army in
the Second World War to speak their allies and
enemies , originally known as the Army method
this teaching method relies
The audio language method is an oral-based
approach and a method of foreign language teaching
which emphasizes the teaching of listening and
speaking before reading and writing . Its uses
dialogues as the main form of language presentation
and drills as the main training techniques .
The theory of language underlying the
Audio-lingual Method is Structuralism.
According to the structural view, language
has the following characteristics: Speech is
more basic to language than the written
form. Language structure and form are more
significant than meaning .

The audio Lingual method was declined because
of Noam Chomsky’s revelation, that language is
not acquired by imitate behavior. Therefore, the
whole idea of the method, that learners are only
imitate and learn from what they hear, is wrong.
These revelations created a crisis in the American
language teaching which led to the Downfall of the
audiloligualism .
