“ Watercolor Pencil : Wet Technique “
Instructions:
On a 9x12” canson pad. Follow prescribed title block format.
There are six boxes , each corresponding t oa certain watercolor dry technique such as FLAT, GRADIENT,
DRAGGING, GRADIENT IN 2 COLORS , WET ON DRY , AND WET ON DRY USING 2 COLORS . It is your task to
render each box based on the technique assigned to it.
Box 1: FLAT
Use a dry watercolor pencil in rendering the dry paper , use one color only and render the box evenly . Note that
the more pressure applied in the pencil the more pigments are attached to the paper’s surface. Using a wet flat brush
activate the dry pigments and spread the color evenly until the surface color is flat .
Box 2: GRADIENT
Take the dry watercolor pencil and render the left side of the box using heavy pressure ,render from the left side
moving to the right making the pressure lesser and lesser as you move to the right direction in order to create the
gradient. Deep the flat brush in water and remove the excess water . Start brushing the paper from the lightest to
darkest ( right to left direction) . In watercolor pencils it is always best to start rendering form lightest to darkest
colors in that way you can always keep your lightest colors light.
Box 3: DRAGGING
Color a part of the left side of your box with one color in thick layer using a dry watercolor pencil . The goal of this
technique is to drag the pigments using a wet flat brush from the left side of the box to the right .
Box 4: GRADIENT ( 2 COLORS)
Using a dry watercolor pencil on dry paper . On the left portion of the box layer with red color , on the other half
layer with yellow .Blend the middle portion where this 2 colors meet. Start activating the pigments using a wet flat
brush starting from the lightest color moving towards the darkest . Take note that you can always layer color on top
of another color when the paint is dry.
Box 5: WET ON DRY ( 1 COLOR )
Use watercolor pencil as water color paint . Put the color in a different paper using a damp brush mix the dry
pigment with the wet brush . Transfer the color to the assigned box and cover evenly with a flat finish.
Box 6: WET ON DRY (2 COLORS)
Do the same us instructed in Box 5 but this time using 2 colors blending or mixing both colors in a smooth transition
between the box.
