• Warm colours?
Include red, yellow, and orange; evoke
warmth because they remind us of
things like the sun or fire.
• Cool colours
Include blue, green, and purple (violet);
evoke a cool feeling because they
remind us of things water or grass.
Things to remember
Always wear an apron as acrylic paint stains your
clothes.

Use HALF a cup of water between two.

Share a palette between two. Please make sure you mix


your colours on a palette!

Share a tray of acrylic paints per table.

Keep the paint trays and pots clean!

Make sure the correct lids go on the pots.


Setting up!
• Blazers off
• Aprons on (check back is clean)
• Palettes out
• Select appropriate brush
• Water pots (HALF full)
• Carefully take off lids off paints
Paint a swatch of each colour
and label
warm red = cadmium
cool red = magenta

warm blue = cobalt


cool blue = cerulean

warm yellow = cadmium yellow


cool yellow = lemon yellow.
Mix to get the perfect secondary
colours
Magenta and cobalt = Perfect Purple

Cerulean blue and lemon yellow =

Cadmium red and cadmium yellow =

Mix the cool and warm of each colour
to get the ‘middle’ primary and paint
the circles

cadmium red + magenta

cobalt blue + cool blue

cadmium yellow + lemon yellow


Mix the ‘middle’ primaries together
and paint the squares

middle yellow + middle red

middle blue + middle yellow


Paint the boxes

any mixed colours on to your palette. Make sure the correct lids go on the pots.
A tint is where an artist adds a colour to white to create a
lighter version of the colour. An example of a tint is pink. Pink
is a tint created by adding white to red.

A shade is where an artist adds black to a colour to darken it


down.

A tone is where an artist adds grey to a colour.

1. Paint the shapes on the first worksheet to practice mixing


paint and painting within the lines.
2. Paint the second pie style colour wheel worksheet – this is to
be peer assessed.

Write your name on your work.
10 minutes before the end of the lesson, after instructed, work in tables
to help each other:

1. 4 boys to help wash brushes and palettes at the sink and


put them away.
2. Put the dirty palettes and brushes in the sink.
3. Make sure correct paints are in trays with correct lids on
and then put them back.
4. Empty the water pots carefully and put them back.
5. Throw away dirty newspaper or fold up clean paper and
put it in the labelled box to re-use.
6. Carefully collect named work and put it on the drying
rack.
7. Wipe the tables clean – sponges/paper towels are at the
sink.

Once you have done your job, help everyone else.


Wait to wash your hands after the lesson if the sink area is busy
