Creativity Math Lesson for Grade 4 Students

Purpose Of the Lesson

This lesson aims at fostering creativity among grade 4 learners to promote the understanding

of the concept of decimal place value of tenths and hundredths.

Standard(S) Addressed

1. MGSE4.NF.7 Compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about their size.

Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two decimals refer to the same

whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the

conclusions, e.g., by using a visual model.

2. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NBT.A.1 Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit

in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and

1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.

Learning Target

To help students record and compare two decimals to tenths, hundredths by thinking about

their size.

Specific Steps to The Lesson

Numerous pedagogical methods will be employed in this class session.

1. During the first part of the session, students will be given a direct demonstration of

how to convert fractions to decimals while also reviewing the unit's standards and

objectives. Rotations in the middle will be used for hands-on learning activities.

2. The students will work together in small groups and take part in experiential exercises

in order to achieve the set goals.

3. Adapting the lesson content to the variety of students in the classroom is another

approach included in the lesson plan. All different types of learners will be

accommodated with the use of games, visualizations, and other interactive exercises.

4. Students in special education will also benefit from receiving individualized support

in order to help them complete course requirements.

Necessary Materials and Handouts

1. White board

2. worksheets for determining place values

3. Marker pens

4. Student guide book on place values

Reflection Of the Lesson

By assessing the students' performance in their groups, the teacher will ideally know whether

or not the creativity sessions in the lesson have helped these learners grasp the concepts being

studied. The retention capacity of the students will be revealed by their solutions to the word

problems and the worksheet. In addition, the teacher will be able to tell which students are

ready for the following class and which require extra review of fraction-to-decimal

conversion and comparison by evaluating their competencies. At the same time, the teacher

will keep an eye on how the students respond to open-ended questions during demonstrations

in whole-class conversations and giving them time to discuss and build on each other's ideas.
