Of GRADE -1 STUDENTS.
In recent year there has been an increased focus on reading instructions in primary,
secondary and higher education (Lie 2010),the literature has shown that comprehension strategy
instructions, including multiple reading strategies,have been justified in being beneficial to helping
learners become strategic readers and improve their reading comprehension (Klapwijk 2012, Medina
2011, Fan 2010,Antonio and Sourigner 2007).This,it is necessary to provide learners with a reading
strategy instructions which focus on teaching reading strategies that can help them become strategic
readers.
In a South Africa context, the need for a reading strategy instructions should be seen against
the poor reading performance of the learners at primary high school. According to Pretecious(2002).
reading is a powerful learning tools, a means of construction meaning and acquiring new
knowledge.More over, reading is the cornerstone of instructions for all learners regardless of their
ability level because it's sets the foundation for future progress and success in life.
In the Philippines policies supportive of the contention that reading is an essential skill to
develop in children were provided. One example is No read,No pass policy stipulated national capital
region (NCR)(DEPED MEMORANDUM order number 67 in series of 2014).This stragent measure
stipulates that because reading is a learning tool promoting students with reading skills fall Short of
their grades level it does more harm that good to students.However criticism exist that despite this
policy more students who are reaching high school remain to know not to read are struggling readers.
In sinantan elementary school discovering new ways like reading to increase students interest
in these basic components of learning in something that every struggle with at one time or another.
Many educator encourage their students to need outside of the classroom in order to increasing reading
comprehension,so cabulary and general knowledge that pleasure reading may have a greater influence
on a child over all academic performance.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aims to determine the significant relationship between the impact of reading
comprehension to the academic performance of grade 1 students in Sinantan Elementary School Year
2022-2023.
Q1. What is the advantages of reading comprehension to the academic performance of grade 1
students?
Q3. Why reading comprehension to the academic performance is important to the grade 1 students?
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
The theory of academic performance (ToP) emanates from Elger (2007), and the author
described perform as an ability to produce a valued result and performer as an individual or a group that
engages in collaboration while the level of performance as the location in an academic journey.
Students who read independently have greater reading comprehension, verbal fluency and
general knowledge than those who do not. They become better readers, score higher on achievement
test in all subject areas, and have greater content knowledge than their non reading peers.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
HYPOTHESIS
Null Hypothesis
There is no significant relationship between the reading comprehension and the academic
performance
Alternative Hypothesis
There is a statistically significant relationship between concept of reading and their reading
comprehension and academic performance.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Academic Performance. Academic performance/ achievement is the extent to which a student, teacher,
or institution has attained this short or long term educational goals and is measured either by
continuous assessment or cumulative grade point average (CGPA).
STUDENTS - All students need to learning and also need to guide for faster leaning
TEACHER - The teacher is the one who teaches the students if how be great and be good reading.For
those students will learn
PARENTS - They are the one who will guide the students to study well for their child and for their child
to read well.
FUTURE RESEARCHER - The students what they need to inform or give what they learned in reading
comprehension to academic performance.
