This report serves as an appreciation of the practical and technical aspects of lashing, tramming
and hoisting at Pickstone Peerless mine by the trainee during the month of April 2023. This serves
as a documentation of the activities carried out during the mentioned period, observations made,
challenges encountered and recommendations.
TRAMMING.
Tramming is the practice used in connection with moving ore materials and labor horizontally
within a mine. Hand tramming involves pushing rail bound cocopans.

From the graph above, it can be seen that in the timeframe under study no week was the target met.
This was due to delays which include:
Transportation of explosives
Travelling of personnel
Breakdown of brakes
Power cuts
Readjustment of guide ropes
Ladder maintenance at 5 Level
Blasting and re-entry
Availability of ore is another factor affecting production especially during the night shift when
workers have to do tramming and hoisting. This is double handling of ore which is:
Labor intensive
Time consuming
Costly

From the pie chart above it can be seen that time lost due to delays accounts for 13% of total time
of hoisting, with the highest time loss being due to blasting and re-entry.
