VOLUNTEER NEWSLETTER – JANUARY 2023

Thanks to everyone who has submitted their volunteer application so far. This month we are
getting started on group interviews, delivering training for the Play-Off Tournament being held
in February 2023 in Auckland / Tāmaki Makaurau and Hamilton / Kirikiriroa, Aotearoa New
Zealand, and enjoying the FIFA Unity Pitch’s first stop - Adelaide/ Tarntanya.

This New Year encourage your friends and family to try something new… inspire them
to sign up to become a volunteer for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ taking place in
July and August this year!

Not only is volunteering a great way to make friends, it’s also

a fun way to catch up with friends and family while giving
something positive back to your community. Sharing an
experience together is also a great way to create memories.
We are still accepting volunteer applications.

Group Interviews - What to expect

Group interviews have started for local applicants, and over 900 have attended so far.

The word “interview” can be daunting for some people. But for the FIFA Women’s World Cup
2023™, we just want to get to know you in a fun, group setting. Questions include:
1. How you would get to shifts (e.g., public transport, bike)
2. Your motivation to volunteer
3. How you handle yourself in certain customer service-style scenarios

Haven’t received an invitation to interview yet? Don’t panic, we are sending these out in
batches over the next couple of months. Keep an eye on your inbox for yours.

“It was lovely to meet the rest of “The guy who ran the interview was really nice and made everyone feel
the group. There’s a lot of talent comfortable and not at all like a job interview. It was great meeting all
and passion there amongst us all!” the others on the call and finding out their reasons for wanting to be
Rita (Melbourne, Australia) part of such an amazing event.” Alana (Wellington, New Zealand)

We will be conducting interviews until approximately Mid-March.

Are currently residing outside of Australia and New Zealand?

This means that you are an international applicant. We will be sending more information about
the next step for international applicants in the coming weeks so please keep an eye out for
that. Thank you for your patience.

Have you heard about the FIFA Unity Pitch?

It’s multi-coloured, you can play football on it and it’s travelling around Australia and New
Zealand, it’s the FIFA Unity Pitch. The photo below is from beautiful Adelaide / Tarntanya where
the FIFA Unity Pitch brought the community together. Bronny Brooks from the Adelaide
Jaguars Women’s Soccer Club commented:

"The FIFA Unity

Pitch provided a
unique and
vibrant
opportunity to
bring our
Adelaide Jaguars
WFC community
together in
celebration of
the largest
female only
sporting event in
the globe. As a
female only
football club, we
are beyond
thrilled to
welcome the world's best female footballers to our home and look forward to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™
delivering a legacy that will drive gender equity, social change, and female leadership both within the sport and
beyond. The FIFA Unity Pitch is a fantastic way to engage with locals and raise awareness of the event and the
Legacy '23 Initiative".

Staying SunSmart while volunteering for the Play-Off Tournament

Hamilton/ Kirikirioa and Auckland / Tamaki Makaura are hosting 13 games between
the two cities in February. Being a volunteer in the summer months includes looking
after yourself by being SunSmart. Remembering to hydrate by bringing a label free
drink bottle, putting on sunscreen before you start your shift and wearing the
uniformed cap will enhance your volunteering experience.

Thank you for taking this step to making this event Beyond Greatness. Remember to contact
us on volunteer@fwwc2023.org if you have any questions.
