performance class (ISO 8525-5 G2) and suppress radio interference in accordance with BS EN
55015.
C. The generating set shall be capable of running up to normal speed and accepting the first design
load step in the time indicated within the design documents. If no time duration is specified, the
duration the first design load step shall be taken as 15 seconds from receipt start signal
D. Each specified generator shall be complete with guards to protect operatives and components
from all exposed hot or moving parts in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974.
E. Suitable warning notices shall be displayed on guards.
1. Provide a battery charger as part of the installation. The charger shall be a current limited
constant-current/ constant-voltage type in accordance with battery manufacturer's
recommendations.
2. Provide an IP31 rated rigid steel enclosure to contain the charger in accordance with BS
EN60529. – IP23
3. The charger shall facilitate boost and trickle charging, include over current and over voltage
protection, provide for earth fault detection and alarm where battery and charging system
are not connected to the earthed system, provide battery on-load disconnection and fuses.
4. The battery charger shall accommodate the following monitoring instrumentation:
a) Incoming supply ON? OFF switch with illuminated LED
b) Charge input and output cartridge fuses.
c) Voltmeter to indicate battery/charging voltage
d) Ammeter to indicate charge / discharge
e) Battery charge output failure detectors with volt free contracts to actuate are mote
alarm.
6. Engine instruments
a) Engine speed (RPM).
b) Lubrication oil pressure gauge.
c) Cooling water outlet temperature.
d) Service hours
e) Alternator control section
f) Voltmeter to indicate generator line to line voltage and line to neutral voltage.
g) Ammeter to indicate outgoing circuit line and neutral current.
h) Frequency indicator to indicate generator frequency.
i) Indication lights
D. PROTECTION
1. Triple pole ACB/MCCB rated to suit the full load capacity of the 2.13.4.1 generator, plus 10%
at unity power factor for instances where the distribution network earth electrode is
common to the generator.
2. Four pole ACB/MCCB rated to suit the full load capacity of the generator, plus 10% at unity
power factor for instances where the generator has an independent earth electrode
separate from the distribution network earth electrode.
3. Over current unit protection to protect the distribution feeder cables as well as the
generator.
2.14 ALTERNATOR
A. The alternator standby shall conform to BS 4999, BS5000 and BS 800 and shall be of the brushless
rotating field type: standby rated at 0.8pf output 380/220 v, three phases, 50Hz to support the
essential load; salient pole, self-regulating, self-exciting, self-ventilating and drip proof. Particular
care shall betaken to ensure that the alternator selected shall be capable of supplying the
electrical demand required under the fire conditions.
B. The alternator shall have a solid state automatic voltage regulator maintaining standby state
voltage as per ISO 8528 G2 limits.
C. The alternator shall be supplied complete with the following:
