While this humble author was in Iʿtikāf in Al-
Masjid Al-Nabawi, during the last ten days of Ramaḍān
1411AH (April 1991), Almighty Allah enabled the
compilation of Ṣalāt & Salām, with the blessed titles
and attributes of the Prophet , corresponding to
the glorified names of Almighty Allah. Due to a
suitable scribe and calligraphist not being available
at hand, it was written clearly by the hand of
Dr. Shahīd al-Din Alighari of Karachi. Thereafter
photocopies were distributed amongst the teachers
of Darul Uloom that were present, as well as the
students and other friends.
May Almighty Allah reward Shaykh ʿAbdul
Waḥīd as he had them scribed by a calligraphist.
These were then distributed in al-Masjid al-Nabawi on
the 28th of Ramaḍān. Following this, over the years, it
has been produced and published with translations
in Urdu, English, Gujarati and other languages; and
now it is being produced as a part of this publication:
Hadyah al-Ḥaramain. We pray Almighty Allah accept
our efforts as a means of salvation in the hereafter.

At the compilation and publication of
Maṣābīḥ al-Dujā and Miṣbāḥ al-Ẓalām, a few friends
from ‘Fisabilillah Publications’ requested that I
compile for them, a compilation of forty Ṣalāt ʿalā
al-Nabī, that are mentioned in the authentic
sources of Aḥadīth.
I thought to myself, various different
compilations of forty Ṣalāt ʿalā al-Nabī are already
widespread. However I haven’t come across such a
compilation that consists only of al-Ṣalāt al-
Ibrāhīmiyyah (blessings and greetings wherein
there is mention of Sayyidunā Ibrāhīm ), bearing
in mind the fact that out of all the different
formulations and wordings mentioned in the
books of Aḥadīth, the most superior formulations
are those of al-Ṣalāt al-Ibrāhīmiyyah. For this
reason, this humble author compiled and
presented forty al-Ṣalāt al-Ibrāhīmiyyah, titled
Maṣābīḥ al-Sabīl. May Almighty Allah make this a
means of salvation in the hereafter, for me and
for them. Ameen

During the last ten days of Ramaḍān 1434
AH (August 2013), some friends from Leicester
(from FCPM), requested that I share some words
on their annual FMO Radio Ramaḍān broadcast. In
these broadcasts, forty such formulations of Ṣalāt
ʿalā al-Nabī were presented that were narrated
from the practices of some of our pious
predecessors.
The first twenty-seven formulations of
Ṣalāt ʿalā al-Nabī were presented, with the names
of the pious predecessors, or their books from
which I derived them. The last thirteen were
taken from the compilation Miṣbāḥ al-Ẓalām.
Miṣbāḥ al-Ẓalām was compiled by Imām Nūr
al-Dīn Shūni  in 897 AH, and would be recited on
Thursday nights, in the weekly gatherings of Ṣalāt
& Salām, held in al-Azhar University. This
gathering would take place till the Fajr of Friday
wherein the scholars and pious would gather to
act upon the following Ḥadīth:

It is narrated from Sayyidunā Ubayy bin Kaʿb  that he

said, “I asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah. I wish to send
many Ṣalāt upon you. So how much of my prayers
should I assign for you?’

He  replied, ‘As you wish.’ I asked, ‘A quarter?’

He  replied, ‘As you wish, if you increase, then it is

better for you.’ I asked, ‘Half?’

He  replied, ‘As you wish, if you increase, then it is

better for you.’ I asked, ‘Two-thirds?’

He  replied, ‘As you wish, if you increase, then it is

better for you.’ I asked, ‘I shall make my entire prayer
for you.

He  replied, ‘Then this will suffice your worries and

do away your sins.”

al-Nabī, Imām Qasṭalānī  would also be present.

Imām Shaʿrānī  reports that those were

the days during which Imām Qasṭalānī  was
writing his commentary on the Ṣaḥīḥ of Imām
Al-Bukhāri . He would bring his notes and
paperwork to the gathering with the intention of
gaining blessings.

 These thirteen Ṣalāt ʿalā al-Nabī, named
(Miṣbāḥ al-Ẓalām fi al-Ṣalāt wa al-Salām ʿalā khayr
al-Anām), were compiled by Imām Nūr al-Dīn
Al-Shūni  in 897 AH, which were recited in the
weekly gatherings of Ṣalāt & Salām, held in
Al-Azhar University. Throughout his life, these
gatherings spread throughout Egypt. In fact they
became so widespread, that gatherings took place
from Yemen to Spain: throughout the Muslim
World, for the sole purpose of sending Ṣalāt ʿalā
al-Nabī.

Imām Nūr al-Dīn Al-Shūni  was born and

raised in a village named Shūni in Egypt. It is also
from here that these gatherings were initiated.
Thereafter he started the gathering, in the school
of the great Shaykh, Sayyid Aḥmad Al-Badawi ,
wherein seekers would flock, on Thursday nights
and Fridays, to send Ṣalāt ʿalā al-Nabī. Almighty
Allah accepted these gatherings of his to such a
degree, that they reached all the way to Al-Azhar
University, wherein they also were conducted.

In the notes on Shaykh al-Shūni , it is

That, Imām Al-Qasṭalānī  would encourage

people to attend the gatherings, and he himself
would attend. During the days he was writing his
commentary on the Ṣaḥīḥ of Imām Al-Bukhāri ,
he would bring his notes and paperwork, placing
them in the middle of the gathering, with the
intention of gaining blessings and acceptance.
For this reason I say: just as the support of
Imām Al-Qasṭalānī  emphasised and helped
these gatherings grow; similarly, in regards to my
spiritual mentor and guide Shaykh Zakariya ,
Shaykh Ilyas  would say, that if it wasn’t for his
support and emphasis, the scholars wouldn’t have
approved of the movement of Jamāʿat al-Tabligh.
Thereafter these gatherings from Egypt
became widespread throughout the Arab world.
In these gatherings, the attendees would recite
many a Ṣalāt ʿalā al-Nabī, as well as this collection
of Shaykh al-Shūni .

 The student of Shaykh Nūr al-Dīn Al-Shūni
, Shaykh Shihāb al-Dīn Al-Balqīnī , also
gathered a commentary on this collection. Imām
ʿAbd al-Wahhāb Al-Shaʿrāni , also a fortunate
student of Shaykh Nūr al-Dīn , included this
compilation in his collection of Adhkār, which is
present in Awrād al-Tarīqah al-ʿAliyyah al-Saʿdiyyah
with minor modifications.

Within this book, Imām al-Shaʿrāni 

mentions, ‘My Shaykh, Nūr al-Dīn Al-Shūni ,
established a series of gatherings for Ṣalāt ʿalā al-
Nabī in Egypt, including all its rural areas; Yemen,
Quds, Shām, Makkah and Madinah. He would
participate himself within the gathering of Ṣalāt
ʿalā al-Nabī in Al-Azhar University.

Imām al-Shaʿrāni  has quoted the saying

of Sayyid Aḥmad Al-Badawi , ‘At this time my
age is 111 years and in 963 AH, after Ḥajj, when I
reached al-Masjid al-Nabawi in Al-Madīnah Al-
Munawwarah, I saw Shaykh ʿAbdullah Al-Yamāni,
the student of our Shaykh, establishing this
gathering in Riyāḍ al-Jannah, and I also
participated in this gathering of Ṣalāt ʿalā al-Nabī.
