Wire Sizes And Ohms

I. Purpose: The purpose of this document is to discuss wire size and ohms.
II. Qualifications: Service of the must be performed by a properly trained technician.
III. Precautions: Electrical and ESD precautions must be followed.
IV. Applicable Documents:
1. Manuals and schematics for the units affected.
V. Wire sizes:
American Wire Gauge (20º C)
AWG = Brown & Sharpe
AWG OHMS PER WIRE
SIZE 1000 FT. DIAMETER
0000 .049 .460
000 .0618 .4097
00 .078 .3648
0 .0983 .3249
1 .1239 .2893
2 .1563 .2576
3 .1970 .2294
4 .2485 .2043

VI. Formulas to determine size of wire needed.

Eclipse or 2001SRNB: motor runs at 48VDC@110amps
2 AWG = 0.1563 per 1000 feet
2 AWG = 0.01563 ohms per 100 feet
2 AWG = 0.007815 ohms per 50 feet

Maximum voltage drop? 10% of voltage

4 batteries: 13.6x4=54.4Vdc (10%=5.44Vdc)
R=E/I
5.44/110=0.049454545ohms
Maximum Ohms =0.05 ohms

I =E/R
E=IR
