In the Philippines, there are laws and regulations that provide for the protection and promotion
of the rights and welfare of senior citizens. Below are some of the provisions of these laws:

1. Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 (Republic Act No. 9994): This law grants
additional benefits and privileges to senior citizens and aims to improve their total well-
being. The law provides for the following provisions:
 The grant of 20% discount and VAT exemption on the purchase of goods and
services from all establishments for the exclusive use and enjoyment of senior
citizens.
 The provision of social pension for indigent senior citizens.
 The establishment of a National Coordinating and Monitoring Board to oversee the
implementation of the law.

2. Accessibility Law (Batas Pambansa Bilang 344): This law requires certain buildings,
institutions, establishments, and public utilities to install facilities and other devices that
will make them accessible to persons with disabilities, including senior citizens.

3. Legal Rights of Senior Citizens: Senior citizens' lives are affected by many federal, state,
and local laws and regulations. Many depend on the government for such things as
housing, basic income, and health care. The law provides for the following provisions:
 The right to legal assistance in case of legal problems, including special programs for
senior citizens.
 The right to assistance in finding employment, including part-time community service
positions and special resources for seniors seeking employment.
 The right to protection from age discrimination.

4. Protection of the Elderly Model Law: This law aims to protect the rights and interests of
the elderly and provide them with the support necessary to sustain the quality of life and
dignity fitting to their respected status in the community. The law provides for the
following provisions:
 The establishment of a government body for the protection of the elderly that will
establish and enforce rules, regulations, and laws necessary to ensure the rights
provided by this law, evaluate, license, and monitor all programs, services, and
facilities for the elderly, and receive and disperse federal funds in relation to the
protection of the elderly.
 The duty of the state to protect the right of the elderly to work based on their abilities
and take necessary measures to ensure adequate conditions and just compensation.
5. Elder Law: This law deals with elder abuse and neglect, guardianship and
conservatorship, age discrimination, planning for diminished capacity, the right to refuse
treatment and the right to die, financial planning, wealth management and property
transfers, retirement benefit plans, and long-term care issues.

These laws and regulations aim to promote the rights and welfare of senior citizens and provide
them with the support necessary to sustain the quality of life and dignity fitting to their respected
status in the community.
