ACTIVITY NO.2

Rectilinear Projectile Translation

- A projectile moving in a straight line is said to be in rectilinear translation. Many situations in real
life involve this kind of motion. Here are five instances:
● A bow-shot arrow aimed toward a bullseye
● Conveyor Belt in a factory: In manufacturing facilities, products or materials on a conveyor belt
can move at a constant speed in a straight line from one end of the assembly line to another.
● Cruise Control in a Car: When you engage cruise control in our car, the vehicle maintains a
constant speed on a straight and level road, exhibiting rectilinear projectile translation
● High-Speed Trains: High-speed trains, such as Shinkansen in Japan, often travel at constant
velocities along straight sections of tracks.
● Elevator Moving at a Constant Speed: When an elevator ascends or descends at a constant speed
between floors of a building, it moves in a straight line without changing its speed or direction.

Rectilinear Projectile Motion

-Rectilinear projectile motion is the term used to describe an object that is propelled into the air and
travels solely through gravity along a straight line (or almost straight line, ignoring air resistance). The
force of gravity causes the object to travel along a curving path in this kind of motion, but its movement is
limited to one dimension, usually the vertical or horizontal direction. Here are five instances:

● Artillery Shell: When an artillery shell is fired from a cannon, its trajectory follows rectilinear
projectile motion. The shell travels in a straight line until affected by gravitational forces and air
resistance.
● Baseball Pitch: When a baseball pitcher throws a fastball, the motion of the ball can be
approximated as rectilinear projectile motion. The ball moves in a straight line towards the batter
until it reaches the home plate.
● Water Fountain: When water is sprayed out of a fountain, the water droplets follow a rectilinear
projectile motion as they travel through the air. This can be observed when looking at the water
droplets arcing through the air before eventually falling back to the ground.
● Fireworks: During a fireworks display, the fireworks are launched into the sky and follow a
rectilinear projectile motion. As they ascend, they move in a straight line until reaching their peak
height, after which they come back down in a curved trajectory due to the influence of gravity.
● Launching a Firework: Fireworks launched into the sky follow a rectilinear projectile path. The
explosive charge propels the firework upward, and then gravity causes it to descend in a graceful
arc, producing the colorful display we see in the sky.
