She is a Nurse with a Mastersis and
doctoral degree in nursing obtained from
the University of the Philippines Manila.
Expert in Medical Surgical nursing with
a sub specialty in Oncologic Nursing.
She served the University of the
Philippine College of Nursing, as a faculty
and held the position of Secretary of the
College of Nursing.
Her latest appointment as Chairman of
the board of Nursing speaks of her
competence and integrity in the field she
has chosen.
She is Awarded PRC Professional of the
year 2019.
ASSUMPTIONS
PREPARE ME (Holistic Nursing Intervention)
are the Nursing interventions provided to
address the multi-dimensional problems of
cancer patients that can be in any setting where
patient choose to be confined.
This Program emphasizes a holistic approach to
Nursing care.
It helps the patients explore their humanity and
internal serenity in the face of life and death.
CONCEPTS/COMPONENTS
PRESENCE
being with the patient during times of need, using
therapeutic communication, active listening, and touch.
REMINISCE THERAPY
recalling past experiences, feelings, and thoughts that can
help the patient cope with the present situation.
PRAYER
expressing faith and hope in a higher power or a personal
belief system.
CONCEPTS/COMPONENTS
RELAXATION-BREATHING
using deep breathing techniques to reduce stress and
anxiety.
MEDITATION
focusing on a word, phrase, or image to achieve a state of
calmness and awareness.
VALUES CLARIFICATION
helping the patient identify and prioritize their personal
values and goals.
METAPARADIGM
PERSON
The person is the cancer patient who has multi-
dimensional problems and needs holistic nursing
care
ENVIRONMENT
The environment is any setting where the patient chooses
to be confined, such as home, hospital, or hospice
HEALTH
Health is the quality of life of the patient, which is
enhance by the Prepare me interventions.
NURSING
Nursing is the provision of Prepare me interventions,
which are Presence, Reminisce Therapy, Relaxation
breathing, Meditation, and values Clarification.
CONCLUSION
The theory aims to improve the patient’s
preparedness for the end of life, as well as their
physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The
theory also considers the four metaparadigms of
nursing. The theory is applicable to any age and
profession of cancer patients who are in the
palliative care stage. The theory is a contribution to
nursing knowledge and practice, as it provides a
comprehensive and compassionate approach to caring
for cancer patients.
