Islam is one of the world's major monotheistic religions, with over a billion

followers, known as Muslims. It was founded in the 7th century CE in the Arabian
Peninsula by the Prophet Muhammad. The central religious text of Islam is the
Quran, which Muslims believe to be the literal word of God as revealed to Muhammad.

Key concepts and beliefs in Islam include:

Monotheism (Tawhid): Islam emphasizes the belief in the oneness of God, referred to
as "Allah" in Arabic. Muslims believe that there is only one God, and He is the
sole creator and sustainer of the universe.

Prophets and Messengers: Muslims believe that God has sent messengers and prophets
throughout history to guide humanity. These prophets include Adam, Abraham, Moses,
and Jesus, with Muhammad being the final prophet. The Quran acknowledges the
previous revelations sent to these prophets while emphasizing the finality of
Muhammad's message.

The Quran: The Quran is the holy book of Islam and is considered the ultimate
source of guidance. Muslims believe that it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad over a
period of 23 years through angel Gabriel. It covers various aspects of life,
including moral, legal, and spiritual guidance.

Five Pillars of Islam: These are the core acts of worship and practice for Muslims:
a. Shahada: The declaration of faith, bearing witness that there is no god but
Allah and Muhammad is His messenger.
b. Salat: The ritual prayer performed five times a day facing the Kaaba in Mecca.
c. Zakat: The giving of alms or charity to help the less fortunate.
d. Sawm (Fasting): Observing fasting during the month of Ramadan from dawn to
sunset.
e. Hajj: The pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, which every Muslim who is
physically and financially able is required to undertake at least once in their
lifetime.
