Definitions

* balanced diet means a diet which have a variety of food which provide all the
netrients which our body needs.

* beriberi means a disease causing by the inflammation of the nerves and heart
failureascribed to a deficiency of vitamin B

* inflammation means A localised physical in which part of the body is reddened,


Swollen and hot and often painful

* Roughage means fibrous indigestible in vegetables foodstuffs which aids the


passage of food and waste products through the gut

* Scurvy means a disease resulting from a lack of vitmin c . Early symptoms of


deficiency include weakness and feeling tired and sore arms and legs

* Rickets means a disease of children caused by vitmin D Deficiency, characterised


by imperfect calcification

* softening, and of distortion of the bones typically resulting in bow legs .

* Goitre means a swelling of the neck resulting from enlargement of the thyroid
gland .

* Anaemia means a condition in which there is a dificiency of red cells or of


haemorrhage in the blood,resulting in pallor and weariness.

Vitamins help in protecting our body against diseases.

Balanced diet provides all the nutrients that our body needs, in right quantities,
along with adequate amount of roughage and water.

Deficiency of one or more nutrients in our food for a long time may cause certain
diseases or disorders.
