Good evening to our viewers, this is metro news 1 and I am Dorothy Shane Pradas,

bringing you the latest news.

Inquirer. Net reports that Last January 22, 2022, The National Bureau of Investigation
said it arrested three Filipinos and two Nigerians who were allegedly involved in the
hacking of the accounts of more than 700 clients of BDO Unibank last December.

Due to the plainly fictional name used in the illicit transfer of money from the BDO
accounts, the NBI called the gang behind the internet fraud the "Mark Nagoyo Heist
Group." Email confirmations for the majority of the unlawful transfers revealed that
they were done by a Mark D. Nagoyo, with "Nagoyo" being a Filipino slang term for
"duped." The actual sum stolen was not revealed by the investigators.

According to initial reports, the hackers were able to get access to BDO customers'
accounts by circumventing the one-time personal identification number (PIN)
requirement and subsequently "drained the funds in those accounts," according to the
NBI.

Technology has been proven to be greatly beneficial to society and has contributed so
much for the convenience of our daily lives. However, technology has its limits and
we, the users of such technologies have to be more aware of the threats that is can
bring. Based on the crime committed by the mark nagoyo heist group, banks must
increase cyber security, and improve their systems. People must also be aware and
track the transactions done in their account in order for them to report any suspicious
activity and they must be aware of the privacy policies of the bank in order to prevent
scams. This is Dorothy Shane Pradas reporting, from metro news 1, reporting. Have a
pleasant evening everyone.
