Dear Students,Today we will discuss the first topic of the
chapter
1. Revision Class IX[Related Topics]

• Compounds:- Atoms of different elements join together

in a fixed ratio to form compounds
Ex: Water: H and O atoms[1:8]
Ammonia: N and H atoms[14:3]
• Ions :- Compounds are composed of charged species
called ions. They are of two types as:
1. Cation:( Having +ive charge) Ex : Na + , Mg 2+etc.
2. Anion:( Having – ive charge) Ex: . Cl- ,SO42- etc.
•Writing chemical formulae of a compound:-
