T-BEAMS
Reinforced concrete floor system
normally consists of slabs and beams
that are placed monolithically. As a
result, the two parts act together to resist
loads. In effect, the beams have extra
widths at their tops, called flanges, and
the resulting T-shaped beams are called
T-beams. The part of a T-beam below
the slab is referred to as the web or
stem.

Solving Problems

Problem #1.
A T-beam for a floor system has a slab thickness of 120 mm and a web thickness
of 250 mm. It has a span of 5 m and the clear distance to adjacent beams is 3 m.
Determine the effective flange width of the T-beam using NSCP 2015
specification

Solving Problems

Problem #2.
Given the following elements of a T-beam: Flange width, 𝑏𝑓 = 1500 𝑚𝑚,
flange thickness 𝑡 = 100 𝑚𝑚. Width of web 𝑏𝑤 = 250 𝑚𝑚, effective depth of 𝑑 =
600 𝑚𝑚. Concrete strength of 20.7 MPa, steel strength of 345 MPa. If the beam is
reinforced for tension only with 6-28 mm bars, determine the nominal and ultimate
moment capacity of the section using NSCP 2015.

Solving Problems

Problem #3.
Given the following elements of a T-beam: Flange width, 𝑏𝑓 = 900 𝑚𝑚,
flange thickness 𝑡 = 120 𝑚𝑚. Width of web 𝑏𝑤 = 400 𝑚𝑚, effective depth of 𝑑 =
580 𝑚𝑚. Concrete strength of 21 MPa, steel strength of 345 MPa. If the beam is
reinforced for tension only with 12-28 mm bars, determine the nominal and
