Other Factors that affect the Health Sector:

A. Genera Economic Resources


 Land -these are used for agriculture, health, education, countryside
 Labor development.
 Capital -are uncommitted resources that will be allocated to different sectors.
 Technology

B. Economic Resources Specific to Health


 Physicians, Nurses, PT -these resources now become committed to the
 Hospitals/Clinics promotion of better health and ideally will not be used
 Pharmaceutical laboratories for other purposes.
 Health Centers

C. Supply of Health Services


 Hospital services
 Physician services
 Treatment of Specific health conditions(Diarrhea Control, TB Program, Maternal and
Child Care)

D. Demand for Healthcare Services


 To be able to supply something , it is logical to assume that a specific good or service
is being demanded for it would be foolish to supply a very demanding form of surgery
when it is not defined whether people will need that specific surgery or it will be
foolish to import a special drug from another country when nobody becomes sick o
that specific illness which will need that special drug.
 Demand for health involves a multitude of goods and services. Hospitals offer more
than a hundred types of services. Pharmaceutical companies collectively produce a
thousand different drugs and vaccines and definitely ,these will not be offered unless
there is a demand for them.

E. Healthcare Service Utilization


 If there is a supply of a specific health good or service and it is demanded, definitely ,
it will be used/utilized.
 There are two things which affect people’s decisions to utilize healthcare, assuming it
is both demanded and supplied :
. knowledge about the benefits of utilizing the health good or service

. accessibility of the facility that supplies the health good or service

F. Other Health-Related and Socio-Economic Factors


 Education
 Public transportation and infrastructure
 Political climate and changes in political leadership
 Multitude o factors which are not necessarily part of the health sector but still affect
health

G. Health Status
 When one utilizes healthcare services, as a medium of improving health, it is assumed
that his or her health status improves.
 If right treatment was done, or correct health good was utilized, as a whole, the health
status of a community, province, region or country improves when people properly
utilize healthcare goods and services.
 If Philippines is undertaking good health programs which are accessible to and are
utilized by the people, expect improvements in the country’s health status as
measured by health indicators or parameters.
