1. What kind of cancer does the country is suffering from as referred to by Rizal? In the present time, do you
still see that our country is still suffering from the illness?
2. What political, psychological, and historical issues had been discussed in the film? Were they clearly
portrayed in the film?

REFLECTION PAPER
The film Jose Rizal is created by Marilou Diaz-Abaya starring Cesar Montano, Rizal referred the country
suffering in Social Cancer, in our present time it is clear that social issues continue to be a concern in many
countries around the world, including issues related to discrimination, inequality, poverty, corruption, and
various forms of injustice. These issues can be seen as social cancers that undermine the well-being and
progress of societies. While progress has been made in addressing these issues, there is still much work to be
done to create a more just, equitable, and inclusive society for all. The film discussed about political,
psychological, and historical issues, some of the political issues discussed in the film include, Colonialism, the
film depicts the harsh realities of colonialism under the Spanish regime, particularly how the Spanish authorities
oppressed the Filipinos and exploited their resources. Nationalism, Rizal’s fervent nationalism and his desire for
the Philippines to have its own identity and independence are highlighted in the film. Corruption, the film
touches on the issue of corruption, particularly how corrupt Spanish officials used their power to enrich
themselves at the expense of the Filipino people. Resistance, the film also highlights the growing resistance
against Spanish colonial rule and the various movements that were formed to fight for Philippine independence.
As for psychological issues, the film explores the inner struggles and conflicts faced by Rizal, particularly his
struggles with his identity as a Filipino and his relationship with his family. The film also delves into several
historical issues, including Rizal’s involvement in the Propaganda Movement, the events leading up to the
Philippine Revolution, and the aftermath of the execution of Rizal, which sparked further revolutionary
movements in the Philippines. “Jose Rizal” provides a comprehensive portrayal of the political, psychological,
and historical issues that shaped Rizal’s life and the Philippine Revolution. They clearly portrayed the film Jose
Rizal it shows the past of the Filipinos and what happened in the Philippines in the time of our hero Jose
Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda.
