01 ORIGIN

Dakpanay is a popular chasing game


played by children in the Philippines. It's
essentially a chasing game where
the aim is to avoid being tagged. Dakpanay
has been passed down through generations,
with its origins rooted in local customs and
practices.

MECHANICS/RULES

1.To play the game, four or five large circles are drawn on
the ground.
They need to be approximately 3 metres (or 3 paces) in
diameter. The circles should be at least five metres (five
yards) away from each other.

2. Choose one player to be the chaser.


3. The players run from one circle to the other while the chaser
triesto tag them. Players are only allowed to remain in a circle for
up to one minute before they must run to a different circle.
MECHANICS/RULES

4. The chaser is not allowed to step into any of the circles. He


can tag the players as they run from circle to circle or he can tag

a player if he can reach them from outside the circle .

5. One of the circles is chosen as the safe circle. The chaser is

not allowed to tag any player who is in that circle.

6. A player who is tagged becomes the next chaser.


INCEDENT AND PENALTIES

1. If a player is tagged by the "it“ while outside of the circles, that


player becomes the new "it."

2. If a player steps on or crosses the lines of the circles, they can


also become the new “ it."

3. If the "it" fails to tag anyone during the game, they will remain
as the "it" for the next round.
SCORING
In terms of "winning" the game, it's usually
the player who was "it" the least amount
of times who is considered the winner, as
they were able to avoid being tagged most
successfully.

game encourages players to work together to avoid
being tagged, fostering a sense of camaraderie and
mutual support.

HOW THE GAME
EVOLVE
DAKPANAY might not have evolved significantly in terms of
its basic rules and objectives, its role and significance in
society have changed. From being a common pastime for
Filipino children, it has now taken on a more significant role
as a symbol of cultural heritage that needs to be preserved
and passed on to future generations.
