Directions: Carefully read and analyze each situation presented below. Identify the principle(s) of
high-quality assessment observed in each. Write your observation and reasons that
support your observation in the box below each situation.

Situation 1

Teacher Joana gave assessment to her class right after the lesson about the solar system. The
assessment test students’ deeper understanding about the lesson, allows them to think critically and
gave them opportunity solve complex problems that involves recognition and appreciation of its
beauty and wonder, which are all anchored on the targeted outcomes.

Balance- Because The teacher gave an assessmeny to the students for them to
remember the discussions. It says that if the students receive an assessments
from the teachers. They are given a chance to prove that they consume
knowledge from the teachers.

Situation 2

Mr. Florendo, a math teacher, frequently give his students assessment throughout the lesson.
In his Statistics class, he use a valid tool that assess their prior knowledge about measures of central
tendency. He started his new lesson about measures of variability after he observed that the result of
the preliminary assessment was good enough to start a new. In between his lesson he roam around
and observed students’ behavior and write those in his files of observations. He also throw questions,
from simple to more complex that uses analytical and critical thinking skills, during discussion to
check their progress towards the attainment of the targeted outcome. After discussion, he
administered assessment aligned to the intended outcomes in the study of variability. He made
certain that he communicated every result from assessment made including his observations and
encouraging feedbacks. He frequently do this routine not only in his statistics class but also in his
other classes as well.
The principles used in this situation are principle 1, 2, 3, 5, 6. Mr. Florendo used principle
2 which is balance assessment of learning with assessment for and as learning through a
comprehensive set of tasks and measures because he used a valid tool that will assess the
prior knowledge of his students about their lesson whereas it will fall under assessment for
learning. Then later, he reflected on the results of preliminary assessment to start a new
lesson. He also used principle 3 as he observed and write the students behavior because it
reflects that he is considering the learning styles and characters of his students so that he
can adjust his teaching approach that will meet to theirs. More so, he also used the
principle 1 as he throws questions because he is developing the analytical and critical
thinking abilities of his students. Lastly, principle 5 and 6 because he make sure to align
his assessment to his set objective and employing a high standards of coherence, fairness
and such by communicating his feedbacks to his students.

Situation 3

Prof. Miranda always seek for improvement not only in her way of teaching but also in her
way of giving assessments to her students. She attended various seminar, training and workshops on
how to develop, validate and administer various assessment tools with the support of his institution.
She takes on every challenge that involves making innovations and trying something new until she
becomes skilled in this new assessment practice. But, sees to it that the new assessment practices she
develop and use support teaching and promote deeper learning outcomes.

The principles used in this situation are principle 1, 2, 3, 5, 6. Mr. Florendo used
principle 2 which is balance assessment of learning with assessment for and as
learning through a comprehensive set of tasks and measures because he used a
valid tool that will assess the prior knowledge of his students about their lesson

Situation 4

Don Federico College Foundation invited a group of curriculum and high quality assessment
developers from various agencies to audit their system of assessments that are presently in place and
to help them eliminate assessments that are poorly aligned, low-quality, or duplicative, in order to minimize
testing time and maximize the use of assessment for learning.

The principle used is 1 2 4 5 6. Mr. Federigo used this methods because he


gathered people first in order to give them proper teaching and insert them with
righteous knowledge. He uses principle 2 which is balance assessment of
learning with assessment for and as learning through a competencies because he
first make a group to discuss with.

Situation 5

San Isidro State College ensure that all data gathered from students using systems of
validated assessment are transparent and meaningful to their students, parents and other concerned
stakeholders because these are critical to empowering them to learn about educational effectiveness.
In doing this, the college also sees to it that data and privacy policies and practices are also met.
