What is Special Education?

Special education is alternative instruction, support, and services provided for students who have
academic, behavioral, health, physical, or other unique needs beyond those met by traditional
educational techniques. Special education (also known as special-needs education, aided education,
exceptional education, special ed., SEN or SPED) is the practice of educating students in a way that
provides accommodations that address their individual differences, disabilities, and special needs.
Ideally, this process involves the individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of
teaching procedures, adapted equipment and materials, and accessible settings. These interventions are
designed to help individuals with special needs achieve a higher level of personal self-sufficiency and
success in school and in their community, which may not be available if the student were only given
access to a typical classroom education.

How does special education work?

These services are part of the special education system. The children that receive these services
confront difficulties at school such as problems with staying focused or their behavior, as well as
difficulties with reading, comprehension, or writing. Sometimes these difficulties can be attributed to
special needs, such as a learning or physical disability, emotional trouble, or something else. If this it the
case, children with special needs have the right to receive special education or support from the public
school system. Special education is instruction designed to meet the individual needs of children with
disabilities. This is done at no cost to the parents. Special education may include individualized
instruction in the classroom, at home, in hospitals or medical instructions, or in other environments.

Every child that participates in special education receives instruction designed

to meet their individual needs (that result from having a disability).
to help the child learn the information and skills that other children at the school are learning
The educational system of special education provides support to children who have a disability that
affects their education, such as a learning disability that makes it difficult for them to read, comprehend,
or write, can receive special education that consists of instruction and individualized help to support the
learning of the child. Students with disabilities are protected by federal laws that assure they will receive
a free and appropriate public education; it is the obligation of public schools to give students this special

Why do we need special education?

In a general education classroom, it is more difficult for the classroom teacher to speed up instruction to
benefit the few students who excel with the presented material, which would ultimately leave the rest
of the class behind. Similarly, if the teacher slowed the pace of instruction down until every single child
fully understood it, some students would be left feeling bored and unchallenged. In addition, students in
a special education setting will receive extended wait time, allowing them to process the information, as
well as more frequent opportunities to respond due to the smaller class size.

As we all know students have their different levels of knowledge and skill in learning which is why

students / or students who are under special education.

Is special education process important?

The special classes organized for these disable or gifted children have become necessity. It allows the
students to enjoy the education and gain confidence due to individual learning. For the personal growth
and development of the special children, it is important for all of them to receive proper education. The
disability cases could include emotional, mental, physical or developmental. There are multiple numbers
of impairments that a student could go through, like, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Multiple Disabilities,
Developmental Delay, Traumatic Brain Injury, Orthopedic Impairment, Speech and Language
