N1 Boilermaker
Engineering Studies

Course overview
Boilermakers often travel and live in different parts of the country for long periods of time,
sometimes finding themselves hundreds of metres above the ground or inside an enclosed
vessel. This is not your typical 8 -5 job - tests your endurance, physical strength and
technical know-how. Assembling, installing and repairing boilers or other containers
which hold liquids or gases - whether in buildings, on ships, or in factories - requires very
specific knowledge and skills. There is a certain risk involved in this job, which increases
the demand for people who have both a solid theoretical understanding of this trade and
practical experience. Completing your N1 - N3 national certificates not only validates your
knowledge, but also gives your employer confidence in your abilities, which increases your
opportunity for career advancement.

What will you learn?

This course provides theoretical training to artisans and is offered via the NATED programme.
N1 is the foundation level in this 3-level engineering programme and learners will be exposed
to the mathematics, science and drawing skills which form the basis of this course. Learn the
skills and techniques needed to manufacture and build structures of steel (made of plates and
piping) for boilers for steam engines, and pressure vessels for power stations and petrochemical
plants; as well as mining headgear, bridges and oil-drilling platforms.
