COLLEGE OF NURSING
Kyla (G1P0) and her husband came to the emergency room of Hospital X. They both look anxious and
nervous. Upon interview, Kyla verbalized the following: “I am experiencing contractions that last up to a
minute. It doesn’t go away even if I sit down and rest. I tried to walk because I remember that my OB
told me to do that, but I’m not sure because I can’t remember. It recurs every 5-10minutes. My body is
aching from my back until the front of abdominals. Am I about to give birth, nurse? Shall I begin
pushing? I had complete pre-natal check-ups but I seem to have forgotten what the OB told me. I’m in
pain. Can you give me pain medications, nurse?
It was also noted that the first day of her last menstrual period was January 11, 2020. Upon physical
assessment, it was noted that her BOW is intact. Vital signs: T = 37.2 P = 90 R = 19 BP = 120/90.
