Guest Speaker’s Bio:
Date: 25 October 2023 Ms Ellen Tise has been the Senior Director: Library and Information Services at Stellenbosch
University since January 2006. Among other notable leadership roles, Ms Tise served as the
Time: 12h00-13h00 first President of the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) from 1998-
2002 and President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions
(IFLA), for the years 2009 through 2011. She also served as Chair of the Board of the
Platform: MS Teams Link : National Library of South Africa (2012-2015), as a member of the OCLC Board of Trustees
(2014-2018), and the UNESCO International Advisory Committee of the Memory of the
https://shorturl.at/osCKS World (2011-2015). She has served a 2-year term as Chair of the Freedom of Access to
Information and Freedom of Expression Advisory Committee of IFLA. She is a recipient of
Guest Speaker: several awards for distinguished leadership and outstanding contributions to librarianship,
Ms Ellen Tise, Senior Director: Library & including honorary membership of LIASA, IFLA Honorary Fellow and Stellenbosch
University’s Chancellor’s award. She is currently the chair of the Board of Directors of the
Information Services, Stellenbosch University South African National Library and Information Consortium (SANLiC).
