INTRODUCTION

A supply chain is a network among the company and its customers or suppliers which
comprises all the dealings included in changing raw goods into a saleable product. The network
comprises the actions, technology, people, resources, and information whereas the functional
groups included in the business network comprise sales, procurement, sourcing, logistics, and
customer service. Supply chain managing is the management, integration, and planning that
guide the flow of information, material, and resources to offer the most optimal service and
products to stakeholders in the procedure of changing raw goofs to a saleable product and
offering to the end users.
A courier is much faster, safer and secured than ordinary mail. It is a specialized service with
authenticated signatures. It has tracking service with each service being treated as a specific
individual case. The courier industry specializes in time-definite, reliable transportation
services for documents, packages and freight. This is done via a combination of transport
networking that includes road, rail, sea and air for door-to-door delivery. This extensive
distribution system is supported by infrastructure that comprises hubs, warehouses, IT
technology and human resources, as well as offices in various cities.
More and more courier companies appear on a regular basis, and you may have noticed
different courier logos and branding on vans and planes across the world. Many of these courier
companies operate independently, whereas others rely on some of the larger courier companies
when it comes to providing international deliveries. One of the main reasons for the increase
in courier companies is the boom in global trade, probably largely down to the Internet.
Couriers have to deal with all sorts of requests from delivering simple mail documents to large
electronic items like computers, printers and televisions. Simply put, the courier market has
grown due to demand from customers and businesses. The study therefore focuses on the
various aspect of the supply chain management in courier industry which makes it efficient to
any market variation.

Supply Chain Management is a crucial decision that a Company makes and has a large impact
on the company's profitability. The finding of the research stated that a variety of challenges
was being faced by DTDC in achieving the supply chain goals and objectives utilizing
traditional methods of processing. Based on the reviews presented by interview participants,
the traditional model implemented in the courier industry was not strong enough and the
industry faces issues and challenges. The modern models, techniques, and methods are
presented in order to tackle the issues being faced by DTDC. This study argues that the
implementation of modern and innovative technology should be ensured to speed up the SCM
mechanism.

The study will help me in understanding the concept of Supply Chain Management and how it
plays an important role in any Company. Moreover this study can be used by other learners to
get an overview of Supply Chain Management in a big organization like DTDC. Lastly this
study can be used by DTDC for further in-depth study on improving the existing Supply Chain
Management and implementing new techniques to improve their profitability.

A courier is a person or a company who delivers messages, packages, and mail. Couriers are
distinguished from ordinary mail services by features such as speed, security, tracking,
signature, specialization and individualization of services, and committed delivery times,
which are optional for most everyday mail services. As a premium service, couriers are usually
more expensive than usual mail services, and their use is typically restricted to packages where
one or more of these features are considered important enough to warrant the cost.
Expedited delivery is an everyday need in business. From after hours to same day delivery
needs, a courier or messenger must have the tools and ability to meet the time critical demands
of clients. Today, the courier industry has become more complicated and diverse. Courier,
messenger and other delivery services are now frequently offered by 3PL operations so that
goods can be moved from warehouse to client in minutes or within a few short hours.
The introduction of supply chain management is of extreme value and importance. SCM forms
the rules and governs the overall process and procedure of the deliverables reaching their
destination. It includes change & risk management, along with collaboration which aids in
aligning and opens the doors for smooth communication between all parties concerned.
Efficient supply chain management also rules the charts in terms of managing the metrics of
demand and supply. SCM manages activities that are needed to plan, coordinate, schedule and
control the procurement, production, and deliveries of products to customers. It is the most
crucial element to the growth of an e-commerce business as it focuses on cost optimization
while keeping the efficiency and quality of the service delivery intact.

Methodology

A Research is a careful investigation or inquiry; especially through search for new facts in
any branch of knowledge .It is a systemized effort to gain more knowledge. ‘Research
methodology is a way to systematically solve the research problem. It may be understood as a
science of studying how research is done scientifically. It is necessary for the researcher to
know not only the research methods or technique but also the methodology. Researcher always
needs to understand the assumption underline various technique and they need to know the
criteria by which they can decide that certain technique and procedures will be applicable to
certain problems and other will not.
Research Plan: Research plan is no specific for all types of research; it is decided depending
upon the nature of the problem. It can be - Exploratory, Descriptive or Causal.

The study the will be a descriptive research.

Designing a research plan calls for decisions on:-

1. Data Collection

2. Research Instruments

3. Sampling Plan

4. Contact Methods
Sample Plan:-

Sample Unit: Employees & Clients of the Company.

Sample size: sample size of total 123 responds has been taken.

CONCLUSION

The third party logistics industry is in a state of flux. Internet, supply chain management and
globalization have made sweeping changes in the existing business models of the 3PLs. To
compete in this market, a 3PL has to continuously improve the existing services, add new
services based on technology and make its internal organizational functions more effective.
BI tools like data warehousing can significantly help a 3PL achieve these objectives.
Recognizing the need for an effective business intelligence solution is just the first step. The
real challenge is to make it an integral part of the decision making process

RECOMMENDATIONS

• The company should force the client to give information in time so that the system is
in place to expedite
• The employer should be trained to use the software which will reduce their workload
and increase their efficiency
• Different sectors should be made aware of the benefits of outsourcing warehousing and
distribution through seminars and presentations
