Operation
Before operating the grinder:
Make sure that you understand all aspects of the instructions and safety
warnings of this manual.
Inspect all hoses, fittings, clamps, screws, nuts, bolts, and all compo-
nents to ensure safe, secure and unobstructed operation. Replace parts
if worn or damaged.
Make sure that the workplace is free of unauthorized persons and ob-
stacles before any operation.
Make sure that the splash guards are in good working order.
Make sure the drill bit is properly secured before commencing operation.
Do not activate the grinder without verifying that the grinding cup is sit-
ting on top of the carbide button correctly. Failure to do this can result in
the grinder or the grinding cup to fall off the button during initial start-up
Never grind bits without using coolant as it helps contain cuttings. In
addition, carbide buttons and grinding cups may become damaged from
overheating.
Keep the machine accessible and make sure the area surrounding the
machine is kept clear, well lit, dry and clean.

Threaded bits
1 Loosen locking knob and slide bottom plate assembly to front most position and tighten.
3 Insert bit and toggle bit holder switch to the clamp position.
4 For smaller diameter bits use the included spacer (6) to secure the bit.
5 When grinding larger volumes of 28-60mm (1.1” - 2.4”) drill bits use the included multi-bit holder (7)
to optimize efficiency.
6 Spacer
7 Multi-bit holder
1 Loosen locking knob and slide bottom plate assembly to rear most position and tighten.
3 Use the adjustable block to suppor the bit. The top of the bit should be close to the top of the bit
holder to minimize movement of the bit when grinding gauge buttons. If the bit is positioned too
high the feed pressure from the arm will alter the angle of the bit relative to the bit table.
1 Loosen locking knob and slide bottom plate assembly to rear most position.
3 Use the adjustable block to support the bit. The shoulder of the bit should be 2-3mm above the bit
table to allow easy indexing of the bit when grinding gauge carbides.
1 The bit table should be in the home position (horizontal). Press the tilt down button and release.
2 Position the arm on each carbide until all the carbides are completed.
1 Tilt the bit table to the angle as specified by the bit manufacturer.
2 Release and index the bit so that a carbide is in the vertical position. Use the linear laser as an
alignment tool. If the multi-bit holder is used, only the middle drill bit can be used with the linear
laser.
3 Rotate the bit after each grinding cycle until all carbides are completed. When using the multi-bit
holder, move the arm to each carbide, then index the bits to the next set of carbides.

3 Rotate the knob (4) to adjust the value between 6 and 26mm (measured button size).
4 Press the grinding cup mount button (9) for mounting assistance. The electronic spindle brake will
activate. This feature will automatically shut off after several seconds or when the same button is
pressed again or when the [0] button is pressed.
5 Insert the correct grinding cup size and profile as specified by the bit manufacturer.
When the knob is rotated past 26mm it will result in a size setting with
the number 1 in front. This value is used when grinding excessive steel
around the carbide (or low button protrusion).
20
To set grinding time
Use short grinding intervals (approximately 8 seconds for small buttons and 20 seconds for larger but-
tons) to learn the effectiveness of the grinding process. Excessive grinding will result in decreased life
of bit and grinding cup, and change the grinding cup profile.
A 1-2mm flat should be left on the button to maximize bit life, help maintain grinding cup profile and
reduce risk of nipple formation.
2 Rotate the knob (4) to adjust the value between 1 and 120 seconds.
1 Loosen the two screws at the side of the orbital rotation unit.
3 Tighten screws.
1 Press and hold the tilt up button (5). TILT is displayed in the upper display.
2 Turn the knob (4) to set the preset angle. The value is displayed in the lower display.
21
Operation start
1 Turn On main power, compressed air, and confirm water supply to machine.
2 Set all required settings (correct tilt, size and time) before starting operation.
The machine stops automatically after set cycle time is completed, then returns to standby.
Grinder operation can be interrupted at any time by pressing the [0] but-
ton.

23
Maintenance
Following these recommendations will minimize down time of the grinder, reduce unnecessary wear
on the machine and optimize the grinding performance.
Always disconnect the machine from the compressed air, electric and
water supply before proceeding with inspection, maintenance, or re-
pairs.
Always wait minimum 5 minutes after all power have been disconnected
before you start work on the Motor Drive or associated components and/
or assemblies. The Motor Drive remains at a hazardous voltage level for
up to 5 minutes after power supply is disconnected.
Never use high pressure washer as this may cause harm and/or dam-
age to the electrical parts of the machine. Use a cleaning solvent and
a wash rag or mitt with low pressure water to rinse, avoiding areas that
contain electronics such as the operator panel etc.
Always use original CME spare parts. This will guarantee the highest
performance and life of the grinder, and reduce service costs. The use
of parts other than those supplied by CME is violating the standard CME
Terms and Conditions of Sale, and will void all warranties.
It is very important that the ball bearings, sealing rings, and gaskets are
replaced in the motor/spindle housing assembly when damaged.
Preparations
3 Place the grinder in its stowed position (ie. down as far as it will go).
4 Turn off air main valve (ccw) to release the system air pressure.
Every workday
• Inspect all hoses, fittings, clamps, screws, nuts, bolts, lighting and all components to ensure safe,
secure and unobstructed operation. Replace parts if worn or damaged.
• Clean with a wash rag or mitt with a cleaning solvent. Rinse with low pressure water.
24
Every 100 hours
• Inject one shot of grease into all grease fittings. There are six grease nipples, four for the two
vertical joint axels located at the back of the machine and two for the bit table. Clean protective
glass inserts in front of the lasers.
• Empty the water moisture trap when water reaches the red marking.
• If the air pressure falls below the green area, the air filter regulator may be full and/or clogged
and/or may need adjustment. Change the filter if necessary. Ensure the compressed air supply is
operating efficiently.

Troubleshooting
Should the grinder fail to operate correctly, follow the checklist below before contacting CME directly or
your local dealer.
• Turn the main power off for at least one minute and then switch back On.
• Check the main breaker. A 10 amp slow burn (15 A max) breaker must be used. Also make sure
the grinder has a correct power supply.
• Ensure the ground wire is connected to a proper ground source.
• The I/O card behind the rear access panel holds a 2 amp glass fuse that protects the electronics
from overcurrent from the orbit motor.
• Check the voltage and confirm it is between 220-240 volts (min-max). Recommended 240v for
optimal motor drive efficiency and longevity.
• Check the compressed air supply. Confirm the air pressure gauge reads between 0.7 MPa (7 Bar)
and 0.8 MPa (8 Bar). Air supply must be clean, dry and non-lubricated.
• Check the water supply. Ensure both pumps are on when the grinder is activated. You should feel
the pumps vibrate when it is in operation. Check the water line connected to the grinder. If no wa-
ter flows out, blow compressed air through the intake of the water pumps and retest. If there is still
no water flowing out, one or both pumps are faulty and require replacement.
• Check the water temperature. Make sure the water supply line is not exposed to the sun or al-
ternate heat for long periods of time. Ensure supplied water source does not exceed 39 degrees
Celsius as this will trigger error 16.
• Discard grinding cup if vibration is present. Continued excessive vibration during grinding may
cause damage to both mechanical and electronic modules and are not covered under warranty.
(See Terms and Conditions of Sale agreement).
