The document summarizes a conversation between five friends - Mayra, Alison, Daniela, Dasha, and an unnamed friend of Alison's - about how they each met their best friend. Each friend shares a story about how they were initially introduced to their best friend, sometimes in unconventional ways like through an ex-boyfriend, and what makes their friend special to them, such as always being there for each other or helping with depression. Some friends live far away now in New York but keep in touch by calling on weekends. The group realizes it's time for their lunch reservation.

Alison: Hi Mayra, we were waiting for you. Dasha: Yes, Mayra, you’re late. Daniela: Right, where have you been? You took so long, we were worried. Mayra: Well, I was in the bookstore with my best friend’s mom to bring her a backpack for her son. Alison: oh, that’s nice, what’s her name? Mayra: It's Kerly. Dasha: Mayra and how did you first meet your best friend? Daniela: Yeah, tell us. I’m sure it was nice to see her again. Mayra: We met at primary school when I was six years old. So many years ago. And you Dasha? Dasha: I met my best friend through a game called free fire and I met him through my ex-boyfriend, which is a little out of the ordinary, because when couples break up friends split up but, in my case, it wasn't like that, he stayed to help me get better and we have been friends for 2 years now. Alison: Oh, that's good, I have known my best friends since high school, he and I know each other so well, we have been friends for almost 7 years. And you, Daniela? Daniela: So am I! I’ve known my best friend when we were high school students too, we were in 8th grade. Her seat was behind mine, so we have been friends since 2008; it’s the longest friendship that I have. Mayra: Daniela, how did you get to know each other? Daniela: It’s a funny memory because I was a new student and at first, I didn’t like her at all. I remember she was a little bit rude and noisy, she liked to shout a lot. I remember there was a time when she yelled at me for no reason, then I got mad because I only knew her name, and she treated me like that! I had to talk to her because she was my classmate, but when our teacher made us work together, somehow, we got along very well. Dasha: Oh, how interesting! What a great way to get to know each other! I can tell she is very special to you. Alison: Yes, it’s interesting and funny because something similar happened to me and my best friend. We didn’t have a good first impression, but with time because of teamwork in class we got to know each other and built a very good friendship. Mayra, Dasha, what about you guys? Mayra: We met because we had a fight in class, our teacher made us sit in the corner of the classroom and didn’t talk, but we had to spend the break in class and lunch with the teacher. Then, I noticed that she brought the same juice that my mom sent me, and we started to talk about what we like. From that moment, we became best friends. Dasha: I met my best friend through my ex-boyfriend, he is friends with him. Johan was a bit quiet, but over time we connected much better as friends and from now on we are inseparable. Daniela: Right, and Dasha, what makes your best friend special to you? Dasha: He makes him special the way he tries to help me even though he doesn't know how, I considered him as a person who didn't know how to express his feelings and with me he learned to have empathy, and to be loyal, in difficult moments for me that I have existential crisis, he sends me articles and books on how to overcome depression, funny videos and he takes me for a ride in his car, he is a person that without a doubt I would never want to lose. Alison: It’s good to know that Dasha, I think what makes my best friend special is the way he knows me the best, and how we interact with each other. And you, Daniela? What makes your best friend special to you? Daniela: I think what makes her special to me, besides she was the first friend I made in high school, is her personality. I used to be a shy girl at that time. I didn’t talk too much, but she made me talk, laugh and encourage me to participate in class. She has such an extrovert personality that makes you happy instantly. Alison: Oh, that’s so sweet. And you, Mayra? Mayra: Kerly is special because she was there in every moment in my life, my best, my worst, and now, even though she lives in New York, and I’m here, we talk every week about everything. Alison: She lives so far away, so when did you last see your friend? Mayra: It was in 2017, when she left Ecuador to move to New York. But the good thing it’s that we are still in touch. Daniela: Same as you, the last time I saw her was in 2018. We met in Puerto Santana two days before she moved on to the United States because of medical matters. Currently, she lives in New York, but we try to call each other every weekend to keep in touch. Dasha: Oh, you guys must miss your friends very much, I hope you both will be able to visit them very soon. Alison: Yes, I think we don’t see how lucky we are to have our best friend in the same country. Dasha: That's right. I saw my best friend when he invited me to meet his girlfriend. We went to see the Mario Bros Movie. Alison: Oh, that's nice, in my case the last time I saw my best friend was like a week ago, we were just hanging out at the mall. Daniela: Well, it was nice to know a little bit about each other, but I think it’s time to have lunch. Mayra: Yes, before we lose the reservation. Hurry up!! Alison: Yes girls, we must go.
